Yesterday I wanted to take a walk so my husband and son accompanied me to the grounds at Olana.  This is one of the most beautiful properties in the area sited high above the Hudson River.  With the leaves off the trees I had an awesome view not just of the Hudson River but also of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge which connects the Greeport area to the Catskills. What is Olana? It was once the home of Frederic Church of the Hudson River School of landscape painting.  And what a place to paint from; you couldn't  have asked for more spectacular views.  Church himself referred to the place as "The center of the world". This property is now a historic site and is available for tours.  If you are planing a trip to the area this is certainly a place to see.  And if you are an artist it is a must. ... 11/23/2007
