It happened again yesterday...my GPS brought me to the wrong address.  This always seems to happen near the Sprain Brook Parkway near 3 zipcodes - Elmsford (10523), Hartsdale (10530) and Greenburg (10607).  I was looking for 103...and of course I get to a dead end at #159 and the street doesn't go down any further...instead, there is a big highway (6 lanes) - The Sprain Brook Parkway.   Of course, my customer's house is on the other side of the highway, and I have to go around (which takes 6 minutes).  Not the end of the world, but super annoying...as it happens all the time in this area.  The roads are all split...because they were built a long time ago - before the highway was constructed.   Now, what's also weird is that highway was constructed in the 1920's...so it's not new.  The G... 02/16/2013

Our neighbor, Dan Martin, has become a member of the Greenburgh Budget Oversight Commission which has worked hard over the past several months to recommend a 2012 budget to Paul Feiner, our Town Supervisor. They have done a tremendous amount of work in comparing our expenditures with other Westchester towns, and discussion with every town department head.  Miraculously they have found ways (mainly through expense reductions and user fee increases) to lower the original projected 18% increase in Town property tax to an increase of about 3.3% and are making recommendations to changes in the way the Town manages its finances (and our taxes!) in the future.  It's June 2011 now, the time of year that home sales are usually strong.  However, an assessment of the May 2011 results for the Greenburgh NY real estate market shows a bad news/good news story.  The bad news is seen in the charts above.  The chart on the left indicates that May 2011 compared to May 2010 resulted in fewer closed sales in Greenburgh, NY (~40% decrease).  This trend is the same throughout the Greenburgh rivertown villages.   While some of this trend may be attributed to May 2011 being compared to the closings in May 2010 which included stimulus transactions, the second chart also indicates the trend in 2011 is moving in the wrong direction.  The chart on the right shows the numbers of closed sales over the last five months.  Typically, sales in the Spring increase, but ... 06/04/2011

On Friday evening, I was on 119 in Greenburgh...almost in White Plains.  It was somewhat busy as people were looking forward to getting home for the weekend.  The road was 2 lanes across on both sides and I saw a car trying to get out of parking lot and make a left turn.  We were all stopped at the traffic light, so the had edged onto the street in our 2 lanes waiting for the other side to clear. Then wham bam, this police car a few cars behind me just jutted out across the double yellow line, sped up and crashed into the other car.  It was kind of crazy.  I couldn't figure out what the rush was and/or whether he was trying to duck into the police station which was right there.
