Goshen, NY Real Estate News

Where is my muse this evening?  Still absorbing my day, I would imagine.  Some days are designed purely for input.  Today was one such day ... the most beautiful of New York autumn blue sky and sunshine, sparkling colors with peek-a-boo lights, stop by the side of the road, warm your face, take it all in kind of day.  No clouds, no existential angst.  To be is all there is and it is good.  And then I realize that I left my camera behind but decide to forgive myself, laughing that I see life in blogs of time.  A journey I cannot share in the Rain as I would like to; words are all I have now. I take country roads from Cornwall to Goshen, through Mountainville's valley and mountain views, interrupted by Washingtonville's main thoroughfare where I get a ticket at a sticker checkpoint.  A T...

Do you remember when a copper penny was worth, well, a penny? That hasn't been the case for a while.U.S. pennies used to be made primarily of copper. Those minted 1793 to 1837 were pure copper. In following years the copper content of pennies fluctuated somewhat, but aside for a brief time in 1943 when pennies didn't contain any copper at all, the copper content of pennies has ranged a pretty steady 88% to 95%.  All that changed however in 1982. In 1982 the copper content of a modern U.S. penny dropped to 2.5%! So what happened to warrant this change? What happened is, copper has increased dramatically in value. A metal that was worth 75.7 cents a pound as recently as January of 2003 is now in 2008 worth $3.16 a pound. The value of copper has increased four fold in the last five years. ...

Why do so few people exercise their right to vote? Here we are, living in arguably the greatest democracy on earth, and most adults never do the democratic thing, VOTE. I always try to be among those casting ballots. Even in the off years when only "minor" officials are up for election, I make my appearance. The "minor" is in quotes for a reason. There are no minor officals. Everyone is a cog in the wheel. Everyone has a part to play in a democracy, and my part is to help those I believe can do the job best get their chance. How about you. Will I see you at the voting booths this Tuesday?

There are a lot of similarities between time and money. Both can be saved. Both can be wasted. Both can be lost. Most of us recognize the importance of controlling our finances, and we have taken actions to make the most of the money we have. We take steps to increase the amount of money in our possession. Money is always on our minds. We budget our money. We keep records of how we spend our money. We monitor our credit scores. We invest our money. Unlike money, however, our time is finite. There isn't much we can do to increase our time. It is, therefore, all the more important that we take similar actions concerning our time. Time should always be on our minds. We should budget our time. We should keep records of how we use our time. We should monitor the value of what we do with our time. ...

It's that time of year again. Days are getting shorter, and there is a hint of cooler weather in the air. Most of us look forward to this as a happy season, full of cheer and love. Halloween is upon us: Thanksgiving and Christmas will follow in short order. Before we know it, our days will be full of joyful holiday planning and festive decorating in anticipation of cozy get-togethers with family and friends. In our joy, let's not overlook the circumstances of others. It is an unfortunate fact: holidays are a very painful time for some. Depression is a common occurrence during holidays. There are those who dread the coming holiday season.People are likely to become depressed this time of year because observing the joy of others reminds people of their own not so happy circumstances. ARM mortgage payments aren't the only payments adjusting at an alarming rate. The latest news about this winter's heating costs is equally grim. The cost of heating oil, for example, is projected to go up a whopping 28%! The usual excuses are being given for the increase; higher oil prices and lower supply. But knowing the excuses doesn't make making the payments any easier.Oil users may be hit the hardest, but they aren't the only ones facing increases in heating cost. Natural gas is expected to rise by 5%, and electricity is expected to increase by 7%.These increased costs will prove challenging for many and devastating for some. So, what is a homeowner to do? You can insulate, turn down the thermostat, and throw on another blanket. After that, all we can do is hope for a mild winter!

Goshen is one of the focal points of Orange County; the area offers homebuyers country charm in the town or village Victorian flair. The bonus is easy to New York City. Once a major heart of Standardbred racing industry, the Harness Racing Museum, Historic Race Track, and Hall of Fame of the Trotter are a must visit for a memorable, all age, entertaining trip.  The architecture of the historic homes in the village is reminiscent of stepping back in time to another era, well worth touring the streets. Village life includes convenient walking access to dining, quaint shops, Heritage Trail (walking/bike), library, banks, businesses, and much more! The Orange County Government Center is centrally located in the village. Horse, dairy, and produce farms are linked with the town of Goshen, alo...
