August 23, 2011, the day of the earthquake, my daughter and I were driving home to Long Island from Brooklyn. We had just spent the day with some goods friends.  On the Belt Parkway, a major roadway, we found ourselves behind a motorcyclist who, just at that moment, decided that one wheel was surely an improvement over two.  He was riding this way, while also standing up on his seat, for a solid ten minutes or so before he finally got off at the exit, scaring me half to death. From time to time, he would change lanes and look back over his shoulder, perhaps for the police, as someone suggested.
