Union, NJ, is home to nearly 57,000 people. It occupies northern Union County in the area that was called Connecticut Farms in the 18th Century.  There are six primary (PreK-4) schools: Battle Hill School, Hannah Caldwell School, Connecticut Farms Elementary School, Franklin School, Livingston School, Washington School. Central Five-Jefferson School serves grade 5, and Burnet Middle School and Kawameeh Middle School serve grades 6 though 8. Union High School serves 2400 students in grades 9-12. There are currently 241 homes offered for sale in Union. After a bit of a dip last month, the inventory has partially recovered but is still lower than it's been in years. Low inventory may bring higher prices - as demand out-buys supply, prices tend to rise.   Prices in Union took a bit of a div...

William Livingston was the Governor of New Jersey from 1776-1790. He was also a signer of the United States Constitution. He built a large country home, known as Liberty Hall, which still stands today.  There was a reward offered during the American Revolution for Livingston's capture and Liberty Hall saw many visiting British troops and naval forces. George and Martha Washington visited Liberty Hall at several times during Livingston's stay. Alexander Hamilton once called Liberty Hall his home as did US Supreme Court Justice Henry Brockholst Livingston.  Liberty Hall was built as a 14 room Georgian style home but now has 50 rooms.  His daughter Susannah became the stepmother-in-law of President William Henry Harrison.  Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights was named for W...

Sell my home in Union! Here are some things to consider before you list your home:  Make necessary repairs such as  dead light bulbs, leaky roofs, and broken windows. Doing this before you list your home will give your agent a much better picture of how quicky the home will sell and of an appropriate list price for your home.  Make any home improvements that will increase the value of your home. A new front door, for example, will help to sell your home faster and will increase the price you get for your home.  Hire a real estate agent.  Interview agents and choose one with a  vibrant marketing plan that you trust.  Educate yourself about selling a home. Here is a link to a free video called"Preparing your home to sell." It's filled with information that can help you make decisions abou...

Real Estate Professionals judge the strength of a real estate market based upon the Months of Supply in the area. This number tells you how many months it would take for all the current homes for sale on the market to sell, based upon the rate of sales in the past. A Months of Supply of 5 months is considered average - buyers and sellers are about equal in the area and homes are being bought at about the same rate that they are being put on the market. A Months of Supply of less than 5 months is what real estate professionals often call a "seller's market." This means that there are more buyers than sellers in the area and homes are selling quicker than they are being put on the market. Typically, this increases prices. A Months of Supply of greater than 5 months is what real estate pro...

Union Township has been the home to several people that have gone on to fame in sports, politics and entertainment, but the most famous of them all has to be the actor, Ray Liotta.   Liotta has played several iconic roles.  He starred as Shoeless Joe Jackson in Field of Dreams and he also played Henry Hill in Martin Scorcese's Goodfella's.  Although Ray was not born in Union (he was born in Newark), his youth was spent in Union and he is a graduate of Union High School, being elected to the school's hall of fame in 1992.  Although he's now a California residen, Union Township is proud to claim Liotta as their own!
