One of the most appealing aspects of living in Montclair NJ is the diverse cultural atmosphere that exists in the Township. Part of the cultural experience includes local theater production at Luna Stage. The Artistic director at Luna Stage, Jane Mandel, has chosen some pretty heady works for this season's theme - Life in America. A recent production -  Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue - by Quiara Alergria Hudes, centers on a Puerto Rican family's 3 generations of soldiers. This production was a finalist for the 2007 Pulitzer Prize. Opening on April 3rd is - The Man in Room 306 - which is a one character play that envisions the last night of Martin Luther King Jr's life. The screenplay is by Craig Alan Edwards. This is a timely production, as April marks the 40th anniversary of King's assassi...

There are new players in today's housing market, and they're not playing fair! As a matter of fact, they are out there lurking in the shadows waiting to pounce on the most vulnerable among us. They are like sharks circling the waters - out for blood. And they don't care how many unsuspecting victim's lives they ruin in the process. Make no mistake, these companies who portray themselves as saviors are nothing but predators.Who are they? They call themselves foreclosure rescue companies. They find distressed homeowners through public records and contact them promising a way out of their misery. The gimmick includes the homeowner having to sign over title of their home with the promise of being able to stay in their home by paying rent to their new "landlord". PLEASE - NEVER, NEVER, NEVER ...

Free press controversy on a college campus? No more says Montclair University President Susan A. Cole. The Student Government Association of MSU was told on Wednesday (2/27) that they would no longer control The Montclairion, a weekly publication of the University. The action was taken by administration without the Student Government's approval. The Montclarion's editor, Karl de Vries, said that the paper was grateful for the president's intervention and would work with University officials to create a publication that doesn't rely on Student Government funding. According to Mr. de Vries, this is a clear message from the University's administration that they appreciate the First Amendment in regards to it's students. For up to date Real Estate information in Montclair and surrounding are...

Some interesting housing news in Montclair NJ. One of New Jersey's leading residential developer's, Continental Properties, has purchased the site of the former Montclair Community Hospital located on a 3.2 acre hillside tract on Harrison Avenue. The much revered Community Hospital closed it's doors in 1999 after 78 years of existence, after operating through financial difficulties for several years. The proposed development of 19 ultra-luxurious townhomes at the site will certainly be a boost to the area replacing a vacant and deteriorating property. Montclair Township officials are extremely pleased that construction will begin soon on a site that was sorely in need of development. The upscale 3 and 4 bedroom residences will offer up to 3400 sq ft of living space. Homes facing the str...

The following guidelines should be used by both homeowners and measurement companies when testing for Radon i New Jersey. For short-term tests, the testing device must be placed:1.in the lowest livable level of the home -- that is, the lowest level of the home that is used, or could be used, as a living space. This would include, for example, a first floor without a basement, and a finished or unfinished basement, but not a crawl space. 2.in a location where it will not be disturbed. 3.at least 20 inches from the floor, at least 4 inches away from other objects and at least 36 inches away from doors, windows or other openings to the outside. The tests only need to be placed one foot away from exterior walls that have no openings. If suspended from the ceiling, it should be in the general...
