For the fifth year in a row, Ho-Ho-Kus has been named a Tree City USA.  What is a Tree City USA you ask?  Suprisingly, many of you may not realize that you live near a Tree City.  In order to qualify a town must meet four standards:Your city must have a Tree Board or Forestry Department . This only means that if your city can't afford a department for tree care and management, you can create a board of volunteers. This is the only way to go in smaller communities. Your city must have a local tree ordinance. Every community should have an annual work and action plan. This tree ordinance helps define the action plan. Today was a beautiful day for a walk around the town of Ho-Ho-Kus. Shown here is a view from the corner of Race Track Road and Maple Avenue looking towards Ridgewood. The town was unusually quiet traffic-wise for a spring morning. All of the trees on both sides of the street have started to blossum and you would never know that only a few days ago, this area of Bergen County experienced a major Nor'easter. Ho-Ho-Kus Borough is a terrific town located literally within 20 minutes of New York City. According to Wikipedia, Ho-Ho-Kus ranks 15th in the state in per capita income. The Hermitage, the former home of Aron Burr, is located in town and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
