OMG LOL - I "lost" this post from a month ago and never published.  Thanks to the new link where you can view your old drafts - I found this and several other partially written posts. I really had a great time at RainCamp in Atlantic City.  Certainly, I learned a TON...and I mean a ton.  I think the 2 day format was a definite PLUS in more ways than one. But, what made RainCamp so special was the people.  We had a ton of fun meeting each other/reconnecting.  I can't even begin to tell you how exciting it is to meet all these people you've been following live and in person.  Some of them I had spoken to on the phone (and several times).  It was just like we were old friends...and we all hugged each other as soon as we recognized one another.  It was really neat.  I'm seriously going thro...

http://www.AtlanticCityRealEstateBlog.com Reflecting the ocean theme, the casino's curvy, glass-cloaked facade appears sculpted by waves. The design by the internationally known Arquitectonica architectural firm is reminiscent of Miami's trendy South Beach resorts. Soaring high above the casino is a 47-story hotel tower that tops out at 710 feet, dwarfing anything on the Atlantic City skyline. Revel originally planned to open 1,900 rooms in the sleek tower but has scaled back to 1,090 to save on construction costs. The outside of the building will be illuminated in decorative lighting that Andersen described as "spectacular." Another distinctive part of Revel is the hotel tower's angled roof, a feature that drew the attention of Las Vegas casino mogul Steve Wynn during a visit to Atlan...

Atlantic City Real Estate Seeing Better Days by Ian Lazarus Over the past year five casino assets in Atlantic City are looking for buyers, raising concerns that the East Coast gambling enclave could be starved for new investment at a moment when competition from elsewhere is rising. The for-sale signs covered a diverse group, from the city's oldest casino Resorts to a 50% stake in its newest The Borgata, as well as a vacant lot on Illinois Ave.. Morgan Stanley finally sold the 1,100-room Revel, a partly finished hotel-casino, and reported a $932 million loss on the $1.2 billion investment. The project is expected to open in late summer of 2012. "It is perilous," said Harvey Perkins, an Atlantic City-based casino consultant at Spectrum Gaming Group. "Saying Atlantic City is a buyers mark...

I have thought about this alot and have been asked this question many times. How long does it take to be an expert real estate agent in your town or community? Does it depend on how long you lived there? Does it depend on how many real estate sales you have made in that town? Does it depend on how many real estate listings you have in that town? Does it depend on how many years you sold real estate in that town? Does it depend that you are involved in local politics? First of all all of these questions and their answers are important. In any type of business I have found that to takes someone two continuese year of work and production to become an expert. For real estate agents the number one activity would be to know the city/town/communities inventory. Read it see it know it. I've nev...

We returned last night from our kick off RainCamp of 2011.  Literally took a train to a plane to an automobile to get home….and it was fantastic!  Except of course our little delay due to Mr. Obama flying in to Philly real quick.  RainCamp is the best aspect of my job.  I was able to hug so many familiar faces and connect with a bunch of new ones.  I laughed, cried and left feeling amazing about this Community we work so hard each day to maintain. The 2 day event was jam packed of exciting information.  A ton of new information was taught that had never been presented before.  I truly enjoyed the little breakout sessions.  Nobody at RainCamp was in it just for themselves.  As ActiveRain is known for, the attendees shared their wisdom, goals, mistakes and triumphs with one another.  A wom...

I wanted to give everyone another point of view from RainCamp in Atlantic City. Considering that I’m always looking down, this is what my view looked like. It’s a nice…and BIG place at Caesar’s – easy to get lost…and, yes, I have. For RainCamp attendees, let me know if you recognize my stops. Some cool floors…fodder for future posts. I will post the answers later. Oh, and so wonderful to meet so many wonderful people here. More about that in my next post.       So here goes: 1                                                                 2     3.                                                              4.      5.                                                                6.       7.                                                              8.      9.                        ...

Would you believe that Atlantic City has a housing problem? Since the announcement of the continuation of The Revel Hotel Casino in Atlantic City. Hundreds and thousands of people are lined up to get a job at The Revel. Right now today there are over 1000 construction workers finishing the interior of the building that is slated to open late summer of 2012. For as many construction jobs that will be available, The Revel is starting the hiring process and has started hiring top executives and over the next year will be hiring and recruitng the best talent away from the other casinos in Atlantic City as well as other casino destination resorts. This should put the total of employees at approximately 4500. With that many jobs coming into the four counties closest to Atlantic City this will...

For those of us lucky enough to be attending RainCamp and arriving Sunday, I'm organizing an optional dinner at the Cuban restaurant at the Tropicana hotel at 6:45 p.m.  If your spouse or other non-RainCamp attendee is along, that person would also be most welcome!  My hubby Chip Mandell will be participating.   Menu is fixed but with a choice of 4 entrees.  Cost with tax and tip is $40 per head, drinks not included.  I have a tentative hold for 16 people but need firm commitments by Thursday night.  (My RainChecks just aren't big enough to personally pay for no shows!)   So, if you are interested and will be in Atlantic City early enough, let me know that you can commit and the number of people!   Note: RainCamp is at Caesars Hotel but this Sunday dinner is at the Tropicana. 0.61 mile...

This will be my first trip to Atlantic City and I'm really excited to be part of the new 2-Day extravaganza.  I've never been to Philly or New Jersey so this will be another great adventure.  After hearing there's going to be some special guests and some great stuff happening this year, I volunteered to come participate and contribute as well.  The theme is Reputation Architecture.  I'm honored to be able to share some of what I have learned of this topic over the years. I also cannot wait to come see many of my old friends and AR family.  Some of the greatest memories and relationships I have were created at RainCamps. Just before writing this, I was looking at the RainCamp Squidoo Lens that was built way back when RainCamps first started. It brought back some wonderful memories. Many ...

Hey ActiveRain...Welcome to Atlantic City! I am thrilled RainCamp is visiting Atlantic City, NJ on April 4th and 5th!  You've got to come...see all New Jersey has to offer! Since RainCamp is now two days...Let's look at some great places to eat while you're away at camp. Before you head off to RainCamp, get an espresso and Sfogiatell (a clam shaped layered pastry made with ricotta cheese) at Formica Brothers Bakery at 2310 Arctic Avenue in AC.  It opens at 7am, and is WiFi enabled so you can write your blog and get you comments in before camp begins! Formica's has been in Atlantic City since 1919, and is still family owned.  Italian and Artisan breads and rolls, cookies, pastries and biscotti are baked round the clock.  Formica's supplies breads to most of the restaurants in the area an...

In Atlantic City condos are bought and sold because of their location first and secondly the building amenities and condo fees. Speaking about location, isnt there two locations to decide on? One the location of the building in the city. For instance the boardwalk would be the most desireable location in Atlantic City. Then the location in the building would be the second decision. Do you want southern exposure? Do you want oceanfront or beach front? Can you afford Oceanfront or would you be prefer bay or inlet views? Do you like the idea of living on a high floor or a more realistic view from the second or third floor? Is this getting too complicated? This is the reason to work with a real estate broker that understands the ins and outs of condominium living. There are many questions t...

I L♥VE Boardwalk Empire * I got into the HBO series 3 episodes too late and got caught up over the holidays with the beginnings of Nucky, The Commodore and Atlantic City. I was very surprised to learn that the show is actually based on a REAL book and REAL characters.   While many have likened it to The Sopranos, this story is actually mostly true and Nelson Johnson's book Boardwalk Empire is the basis for the HBO story.  HBO's Nucky Thompson is actually Nucky Johnson and the importance of ROADS, the use of Africian Americans for the hotel industry, the back room dealings with bootlegging, the MOB and politics makes the TRUE story more strange than the HBO fiction. Kudos to HBO for winning the Golden Globe for the BEST TV Series in the DRAMA category and for Steve Buscemi for winning th...
