The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has new lead paint laws that went into affect in April 2010. The new law requires any renovation work performed on houses built before 1978 to be performed by a certified contractor. Obviously this new law is causing some serious moans and groans from both home owners and contractors. The lead paint laws involve training and certification of remodelers, safe work-site practices, verification and record keeping. The few exceptions to the law are: Any home or child occupied facility that built after 1978. The repairs are minor, with interior work disturbing less than six sq. ft. or exteriors disturbing less than 20 sq. ft.   If the house or components test lead free by a Certified Risk Assessor, Lead Inspector, or Certified Renovator. What Does...

Did you know only 75% of the Revenue generated by the town is from tax dollars?   And where does all town money go? Below are some pie charts posted on the Allendale Website which show these statistics for 2010.     I find it interesting that the town receives only 9% of total revenue from the state and this is in the form of Energy Receipts Tax. What are your thoughts about these figures? Were you aware of the percentages? I would be interested to hear your opinions. Do you have any questions about Allendale or Allendale Real Estate? Very good article written by Dan Steward, President of Pillar To Post Professional Home Inspections. The Case-Shiller Index is one of the country's most popular ways of measuring the movement of home prices. And in its latest rating, which went out in late December, the verdict was: Prices are down. The Case-Shiller report's 20-City Composite rating was 0.8% lower than it was one year previously; the first year-on-year decrease since October 2009. In some markets, sales were the worst ever-as the report noted: "While the composite housing prices are still above their spring 2009 lows, six markets-Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Portland (OR), Seattle and Tampa-hit their lowest levels since home prices started to fall in 2006 and 2007, meaning that average home prices in those markets have fa...

From the Allendale town website: Allendale Police Messaging Services There are now two ways Allendale Police are communicating with our residents. We are using the SwiftReach and Nixle services. Each has its own advantages and applications. SwiftReach is used to send out recorded messages over the telephone when a large number of people or those in a specific geographic area need to be contacted quickly. This service is for the highest priority messages that need to get out to these residents as quickly as possible. The contact information for SwiftReach is taken from phone company records for listed numbers and is updated semi-annually. Cell and unlisted phone numbers are not included in these updates. To register these numbers in the lists, residents must go to the Borough web site (...
