New Hampshire's Rugged good Looks. I can see the forest for the trees, I took my bag lunch for a short ride today to remind me what is outside of my office walls. The Kancamagus National Scenic highway designation is well deserved. Enjoy the views of my picnic lunch today.                        I didn't mind a cold lunch with this great view. It was hard to get this shot facing due south into the sun, but the avalanche area across the valley was worth the photo risk. A western shot reminds me that this is miles of wilderness. In fact the route through the mountains is devoid of any man-made structures for 35 miles...gas up before you head over the Kancamangus Pass (one of the highest elevation drives open all year round). South Peak Resort at Loon Mountain, New Construction breaks ground. Once the Post and beam designs have been approved by the architectural review board Cargill Construction got right to work. Foundation poured...Ridged Foam board (pink styro board - insulating the basement) will be finished with a stone product yet to be chosen. A New Adirondack home under-construction on South Mountain Road at Loon. I asked the boys to move the porta-john out of my camera shot - (thanks guys). What a beautiful day to get out into the woods...Big Views and hemlock trees weighed down with dense snow.                 The groomed trails make a cross country ski so easy - smooth and quiet in the woods.     The view north peeking through the trees was really nice - with the blue sky backdrop.    The clouds are starting to roll in again time to head for home...before the snow socks me in. As another weekend unfolds the White Mountains of New Hampshire, have experienced record snow fall and the record number of skiers have toppled the old ticket sales numbers. Over the Martin Luther King Jr. three day weekend Loon mountain had a Saturday sell out with ticket sales exceeding 8,200 (at $70/ticket that was very good day). What does this mean for the region and the future? Additional Terrain, trails and lifts are scheduled for the South mountain side of Loon in the coming year (designs for a new learning center were recently unveiled as well). While showing homes at South Peak resort, I noticed many skiers still haven't discovered the new peak on the south side (in it's 3rd season of operation).
