Flume Gorge at Franconia Notch State Park, New Hampshire. Flume Gorge part of Franconia Notch State Park, New Hampshire off of I-93 and In the middle of White Mountain National Forest. The Flume was discovered in 1808 and is a natural gorge that is 800 feet long at the base of Mount Liberty. The walls rise up to 70 to 90 feet and are 12 to 20 feet apart. The hike starts at Flume Visitor’s Center off exit 34c of I-93 and is a two mile loop that is up hill and lots of stairs but very well maintained. In the White Mountains of New Hampshire - What a difference a day makes (or even a couple of hours).                             Sunrise inspection of the field that leads to the Pemi river. The head count is complete, all present and accounted for. We had three Teenage boys who insisted on camping out last night. The fog was as thick as pea soup, and it rained hard...really hard. I was nervous the tent would be swept down river. There is still plenty of snow up at the higher elevations for the temps reached 75 today in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This means major melting and swollen rivers.  These condos at the base of Loon Mountain are typically 100 feet or more away from the water but spring means flirting a bit with the raising river levels. The Fog is eating up the snow quickly and the Kayaks have already jumped on the white water created by the fast melt. This was a work to allow the life you want day. This is why we live here. I determined this was my last day of the year on the slopes, before I arrived on the hill. Ever time something so perfect you question how could you be so lucky? We had one of those days today. It turned out to be just the perfect temp, Sun, snow consistency, wind...you know Perfect. I almost felt guilty...almost. If you sail, fish, hike, golf, (or have another outdoor passion)...or any other interest that makes you -you, this was a dream day. "Epic" Today I didn't need somebody to love me, want me, need me as much as I needed somebody to love. I love my wife and this life. Ready for some spring...So am I, but the Kancamagus scenic highway that travels from Lincoln New Hampshire to North Conway - Through the White Mountain national forest is not ready to yield it's winter grip quite yet. April 6 2011    The Snow banks on the Kank are taller than my SUV. Have a look at this quick video of a short drive over the top of the "KANC" I had two hours to kill between appointments today - so out came the snowshoes, and up the "KANC" I went. The Hancock Notch Trail...was fresh and white no foot prints left behind as evidence of last night's new snow. The elevation of the Kancamagus at the highest point on the road is just under 3,000 feet. The North Country Center for the Arts - Flew Steel at Jean's Play House today. It was a rather chilly March day in the White Mountains of New Hampshire with a serious threat of more snow in the air, the dedication ceremony went off without a hitch. Although there are no walls up on the Play house yet, it was decidedly warmer when standing in a crowd of happy patrons of the arts. From rather humble beginnings, back in 1985 the old paper mill machine room #1 was "temporarily" transformed in to a play house...and it stood for 25 seasons of great musical theater.           Machine Room number #1 produced the best paper in America at the turn of the century.     Machine #1 was turned in to the "Papermill Theater" where young talented artist sang and danced during their stint in summer theate... 03/31/2011

Another big snowstorm is barreling down on us for Thursday night into Friday, and forecasters predict up to a foot or more of fresh snow - just in time for the first of April.  We will be looking at a new Foot of Snow on April Fool’s day…Tell me it’s Spring. Cloudy sky's and Corduroy slopes...One of the best states to call home in all of America. We are expecting more snow tonight in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Early runs mean Groomed slopes from the night before, having received 6 inches of fresh crisp white snow...I was ready to go. No marks on this carpet of Corduroy, something most skiers rarely see unless they are on the first lift of the day. It was time to crank out a few quick top to bottom runs, as two short sales have to be negotiated and a land closing require my attention before a noon deadline. I try to get outside Sunday after work...as the days get longer I get more ambitious. I know there is still a ton of snow in the woods, but I'm drawn to Glover brook -for a look every season. A Fall Shot below.  It really is a pretty hike in the fall...After over 100 inches of snow this winter and temps still in the 30's we have a lot of snow in the hemlock covered shadows of Glover Brook. I strapped on the snow shoes with spikes for this icy hike along the brook. Yesterday during a quick detour to the ski slopes I shot this video from the Top of Boom Run ski trail on the South Mountain side of Loon. What does that have to do with real estate you may ask? This trail leads you to the slope side Adirondack style homes we are custom building at the South Peak Resort. I had a Roofing specialist who has been after me to - listen to his pitch. I'm approached by Stagers , Electricians, Plumbers, Framers, Cleaning companies, Landscape companies, Title companies....and the list goes on and on. They all want a few minutes of my time, I'll buy you lunch...is often the come on. I usually eat lunch at my desk, when I'm here I'm working, but take me golfing or skiing and you have a deal. No one has to buy me a ticket or pay for a round of golf...I have my own pass -and -memberships thank you. When we spring the clocks forward, naturally the thoughts of melting snow and projects put off for the winter will be coming to mind. Don't get me wrong we expect to be skiing for another month and a half (Easter Weekend is usually the closing date), but now is the time to plan for building. With Designs, local building permits and a Architectural approval process Looming ahead of you...want to be digging as soon as the frost is out of the ground. The folks we are building this home for are looking forward to having it completed by the summer school vacation season, and having full use of this ski back location by next years ski season. After two weeks of back to back School vacations in the surrounding New England states...I had a chance to ski for two hours today - prior to my first meeting of the day. We had a ton of rain on Monday...but it froze to the trees at higher elevations. This is a shot of Mount Washington New England's highest peak (6,300 feet) on a clear day you can see 50 miles to the east.    The Loon Mountain Ski Resort had received 73 inches of snow in February alone...so a little rain made for a tough couple of days of skiing, but with great grooming and deep coverage the spring skiing will be awesome.
