Last week on my way home from Asheville I met a few friends at Maggie's Galley Oyster Bar in Waynesville for dinner. My feast, fried trout, was delicious (fresh, tender, and not greasy). You'll see on the video that the servings are very generous (yet prices are very reasonable). Ample and convenient parking is provided (including a parking area above the lot attached to the restaurant). John Keith treated his ‘computer guru,’ George Ferguson, and I to lunch this week at Downtown Waynesville’s Gateway Club. Housed in a building that has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Club offers "a venue for social and business connections that pairs traditional Southern hospitality with state-of-the-art amenities." The Fried Hamburger that John ordered was most appetizing (love fried food), and I was glad he ordered it so I could lust over it.   Lake Junaluska always provides new and beautiful views and/or flowers each and every time I drive around the Lake, depending only upon the season. Yesterday afternoon it was warm and sunny, and the swimming area was quite busy. Hard to imagine getting into the water since the temperature on my deck yesterday morning was 52 degrees. My realtor friend Bonnie Williams treated me to a delicious Birthday Dinner Monday night at her beautiful home in  Pinnacle Ridge in Waynesville NC. Pinnacle Ridge is one of the beautiful mountain, deed-restricted, gated communities in Haywood County with beautiful views in every direction, and a location convenient to everything. Bonnie plants beautiful flowers every Spring, so I ran out before the dinner was ready and the sun disappeared, and snapped a few photos of her flowers. A few days ago I, once again, ended up at the mini-horse farm on Mauney Cove Road in Waynesville NC, which is located maybe 60 seconds from Granny’s Chicken Palace. Okay.... it is not news that we have businesses in Haywood County closing left and right, numerous layoffs, homes being foreclosed upon, short sales, no significant new construction to speak of because our residential real estate inventory is ridiculously high and still increasing, we have the lowest number (drastically lower) of Haywood County residential real estate sales in 2009 than in any of the previous 4 years, automobile dealerships are drying up, the dairy industry is suffering, food expenses are higher, gas prices are on the increase, etc., etc., etc. Now the County is having meetings to figure out how to raise our taxes. “The proposed budget recommends cutting 35 county positions and increasing the property tax rate by 1.7 cents from the current rate of 49.7 cents per $100 to... 06/07/2009

The chart below provides a 'bird's eye' view of the 2009 Haywood County residential sales market (through June 5) in comparison to previous years. Interesting to see that we are back to 2005 'average selling prices' ... almost. The number of closed transactions, however, is the lowest in the five reported years, and it is taking longer to sell homes in 2009 (average of 176 days). The miniature horse farm here in Waynesville has an entire pasture full of new babies, and I just couldn't resist going by there a couple of days ago and snapping a few pictures. Hard to take a bad picture of tiny miniature horses, and it is not bad having Waynesville real estate filled with pastures of horses - - no matter what size they might be.
