Oh Deer Me, how much should be cleaned out? When we help people get ready to list their houses, one of the suggestions we usually make is De-clutter, De-clutter, De-clutter (actually, is that three suggestions?) and minimize the amount of “personal” décor. The goal is not to hurt the seller’s feelings or pass judgment on how they choose to add focus to their walls, refrigerators or bulletin boards. The goal is simple, some buyers have a great deal of difficulty visualizing themselves and their own decorative demons in a house if there is no place for the eyes to rest and contemplate. Working in real estate isn’t for the faint of heart or those addicted to instant gratification. We’ve long forgotten the concept of “steady paycheck”. Working in real estate is like running marathons and requires intestinal fortitude, building endurance and astounding flexibility. We just crossed the finish line on one heck of a long distance run.     From showing to closing … 14 months. From contract to closing … 7 months and 1 day. There is something so special about being inside a barn built more than 100 years ago. Just knowing that a whole community put their backs and hands to raising the barn together makes you realize the best way to accomplish a goal is to work together. At least once a day I'm reminded of how lucky I am to live and work in a place that people dream of coming to. Having the Blue Ridge Parkway in my backyard is a treasure I never take for granted. In spite of rain and fog yesterday, my mother, brother and I decided to take a spin on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Jackson and Haywood counties yesterday. The fall colors are extraordinary now and I thought for sure today’s post would be full of my photos.   We looked at Joyce Gersky's (my mom’s) photos first though and today is dedicated to Mom's Gallery of Fall Foliage Photos. Can you believe these are some of her first ever attempts at “view” photography? These are just four of two dozen beautiful shots and were taken with a simple Nikon digital that she just purchased for herself two months ago.   She’s headed back to Florida in a couple of days and I hope she’ll continue to use the camera…she really has a gift for composing a good photo. Sometimes I can't believe our good fortune to live and work in these mountains of Western North Carolina.  Most people have never heard of little known Fines Creek in Waynesville and I suppose some of the neighbors there are just fine with that.  I'd heard of it of course, but had never had the chance to check it out.     Funny how opportunity will sometimes present itself.  For us, it came in the form of a referral in a very roundabout way.  We have listers who live in Asheville but own a historic farmhouse property in Dillsboro that we represent.  Our clients happened to engage someone in Asheville in a conversation about farmhouses.  Turns out that this person has a cousin in Colorado looking for a farmhouse here in the mountains.  Our sellers of course suggested their property and ... 09/29/2011
