What's not to love? Bonnie Williams, a very seasoned Buyer's Agent (I call her 'Bull Dog Bonnie') and I (camera in hand), had the pleasure of spending Monday showing just a few of the beautiful homes that are on the market here in Waynesville, NC. In these interesting times, we find opportunities to buy quality properties for less./wnc/ This may be one of those opportunities. This new home is on the market as a pre-foreclosure property. It does not have a CO yet. The home has never been lived in and it is in one of the premier neighborhoods in Waynesville, NC. So if this is of interest to you please let me know. Be sure to notice the gorgeous VIEWS, the large windows in the great room with a 2-story fireplace, and big bedrooms. The full basement is unfinished at this time. The two car garages are on the main level, which makes for easy access. Give a call or an email for additional info or a showing!

The Great Smoky Mountains is the most visited National Park in the United States. With over eleven million visitors a year, and within a day's drive of half of the countries population, many of the parks more popular areas can become quite crowded. However, there are some places of unparalleled beauty and historic significance that are far removed from large numbers of Park visitors. One such place is the Cataloochee Valley. Because it requires a little more effort to get there, the Cataloochee Valley is rarely crowded; more than likely, there will be fewer visitors in this large area than in any other place in the park. It is also here in Cataloochee, that the Park Service reintroduced elk earlier in the decade. Although elk roamed these mountains for hundreds of years, they were extir...

Our Rotary Club of Waynesville meeting Friday was held outside at the Waynesville Country Club instead of our normal inside location, for a couple of good reasons (a raptor and a snake), courtesy of the Balsam Mountain Preserve Nature Center. As part of the Balsam Mountain Trust, the Balsam Mountain Preserve Nature Center at Balsam Mountain Preserve documents and preserves the natural as well as cultural history of Balsam Mountain.  View the Nature Center site map here.  The Nature Center presents programs, when asked, educating the public about the Balsam Mountain Preserve Nature Center and the ecosystem on Balsam Mountain. A beautiful raptor and a rather large black snake kept the attention of Rotary members and guests during the Nature Center’s presentation.   ©Susie Blackmon Photos...

This RES visual tour is for those who enjoy authentic, hand-hewn log cabins.  While taking photographs at Boyd Mountain Log Cabins and Tree Farm recently, I noticed two 'new' authentic, rustic old cabins being rebuilt on the property.  Boyd's cabins, nestled in a cove on a 130 acre Fraser Fir Christmas tree farm, are brought in from all over the country, rebuilt, and furnished elegantly for your enjoyment and pleasure.  Talk about a spectacular place to come enjoy the mountains... and if the timing is right, pick up your fresh Christmas tree.   All photos ©Susie Blackmon Photos. Late yesterday afternoon I took another drive out to Boyd Mountain,  and I returned home with my camera once again filled with more beautiful flower photos. Soon fall will change the landscape and colors of the beautiful property owned by the Boyd family, and my passion for bright colors will be abated by the gold, green and orange leaves painting the mountains, and the 'ripening' Christmas trees that fill the rolling terrain of Boyd Mountain Log Cabins and Christmas Tree Farm. I will always find an excuse to drive out there! The pink petals of this flower, beautifully lit by the late afternoon light, remind me of the 'Doll Cakes' that my mother made for me and my sisters many years ago in Hawaii. Can't you just picture a beautiful Barbie Doll squished down the middle of this flower? Hm...
