The Dare County board of commissioners has finally given it's ok to the extension of water lines to the unincorporated areas of Roanoke Island. The incorporated town of Manteo has had its own water system for a long time but the areas outside the town limits were on wells. The new water lines will be run to the areas north of Manteo and south to the village of Wanchese and Skyco. Once the lines are completed the county will require mandatory hook-ups and a $2,500 impact fee payable over 5 to 7 years. The usage rates will be the same as for the rest of the county. The area north of Manteo will be completed in the next 3 years and in the next 2 years for Skyco and Wanchese.
