Those of us who live in Pinehurst or Southern Pines, North Carolina often make the traffic free 1 hour 15 min drive to Raleigh to take in a Carolina Hurricanes game at the RBC Center.  The arena is very easy to find, and it is right off the highway with easy and cheap parking.  Ticket prices are reasonable, much more so than in other metro areas.  The Canes won the Stanley Cup a couple of years ago; and the many transplants from big hockey towns love having an NHL team in town.  When we have out of town customers, we often treat them to a game and a great dinner up in the Raleigh area.  This year, the team is once again in the running for the division title - and who knows, maybe even another Cup!  The best of both worlds is to enjoy a round of golf in Pinehurst during the day, and then...

The Southern Pines Police Department has reported that "so far this year, overall crime is down 30% from the previous year." Break-ins and larcenies are down even more. The figures include crime statistics form the first two months of 2007 and 2008. March figures are not yet available.There were 74 total crimes in the business area during the first two months of 2007, according to Police. That number has decreased to 50 this year. Also down are break-ins, burglaries and robberies. Burglaries declined 60% from 10 this time last year to 4 this year. Larcenies involving motor vehicles are down 75% from 12 to 3. As of March 1, 2008, a total of 141 Single Family homes in the Southern Pines area of Moore County were shown to be for sale in the Multiple Listing Service of the Pinehurst-Southern Pines Area Association of Realtors.  The price of these homes ranged from a low of $14,900 to a high of $2,100,000, with the average price equal to $473,035 and the median price equal to $395,000. For those home searchers who are open to considering golf communities outside of Pinehurst, Longleaf CC offers a very nice course and many member benefits.  Located just outside of Pinehurst off of Midland Rd., the Longleaf community is comprised of a nice mix of single family homes, townhomes and patio homes.   Prices generally range between the mid $200's to the high $400's.  Occasionally you will find spacious golf front condos (many with hardwoods and 3 bedrooms) available for $250k to $290k.  Also underway are new patio homes, called the Meadows.  Members of Longleaf enjoy access to the golf course, tennis courts, a pool and croquet, as well as special member events.  Plus, current listing information is indicating "no transfer" fee for those buyers who opt to join the club.    Cli...

I hate fast food. I refuse to eat it, unless there is absolutely no other alternative. When I'm in a hurry, I call ahead to Squire's Pub and ask for the loaded baked potato with steak and mushrooms.
