It's official.  Ocean Isle Beach and most of the North Carolina coastline are now under a tropical storm warning.  The low that developed off of the Georgia coast this week was, as of 8 a.m. EST today, located about 65 miles southeast of Charleston, SC. Tropical storm warnings have been issued for the coast from S. Santee River, SC (below Georgetown, SC) all the way up to Currituck Beach, NC (near the Virginia state line). If this tropical depression becomes a hurricane, it will be named Cristobal.  The current tracking shows the storm delivering a glancing blow to the North Carolina coast and quickly veering off to the northeast Atlantic. Ocean Isle Beach and Hurricane preparedness The hurricane season is starting to heat up, and all the folks who have relocated or retired to Ocean Isle Beach and other parts of coastal North Carolina are paying close attention to the low pressure system that has developed this week off the coast of Georgia. Per The Weather Channel, conditions are favorable for further strengthening of this low pressure system. Hurricane hunters are prepping for potential flights into the system over the weekend. My family and I live less than a mile inland from the beach at Ocean Isle (Intracoastal Water Way).
