According to Elliot Eisenberg, Ph.D. a nationally acclaimed economist "sales of vacation homes are skyrocketing. Last year a record 1.13 million vacation properties sold, an amazing 21% of all sales and up 57.4% from 2013! Part of this is due to Boomers buying second homes to eventually retire to, while part is being fed by strong gains in financial markets. Meanwhile, sales of investment homes fell 7.4% to 1.02 million and owner-occupied purchases were 3.23 million, 60% of sales." The Outer Banks market has certainly contributed to those numbers with sales at an all time high over the last 5 years. The Outer Banks is a 160 mile barrier island with beautiful sand beaches that stretch from the Virginia line down to Hatteras Island. With over 7 million tourist visiting each year the Outer...

Duck Real Estate - Homes For Sale In Duck NC About mid-point in the 1960’s, my family started vacationing annually in Duck, usually during the second or third week of August. Back then, there were no paved roads, and few homes for sale in Duck NC. You could walk the beach most of the day and not see a single soul. Each summer, anticipation ran high for my parents as our week at the beach approached; and every year, I dreaded the idea of being away from my friends, with only my two brothers for company. Looking back, now I understand what my parents treasured. Although Duck has changed dramatically since then, it has retained its charm, and is known as a family oriented vacation spot for thousands of visitors, who just like my parents, anticipate their week at the beach with great relish...

In order to fully enjoy a sunset or sunrise in OBX (Outer Banks, North Carolina), you must leave the house.  This is the beautiful walkway that leads to the beach.  I love the way the tree canopy envelopes you as you pad along the boardwalk planks.   This is a photo taken just as the sun started to rise.   You have to walk up a flight of stairs in order to get to the beach.  This is a photo taken from the top of the deck that overlooks the dunes and the beach.   Sunrise through the tall sea grass. The colors are just magnificent! Aren't these just great?   And now begins the sunset photos--taken on the sound side of OBX.  Doesn't matter where you are, they are just spectacular.   Flowers on the dune catching the last bit of sun before it disappears...   Just awesome!   Thanks for stoppi...

This is a picture I took earlier this week on my way home from Southern Shores. It is of the pier across form the Barrier Island Station resort in Duck, NC. The pier goes out into the Currituck Sound and the views at sunset are amazing. Unfortunately it is a private pier and not open to the general public.

With the temperature in the 70s and a a pretty sky, it was a perfect day for the 2011 Duck Jazz Festival.  The wondeful sounds of jazz and the aroma of succulent local food permeated the air in Duck. The all day festival continues to get better each year.  If you couldn't make it out this year, put next year's festival on your calendar.   Red Sky Realty Group is your resource for homes in North Carolina.  Search homes for sale in the Outer Banks, Corolla, Greenville and Elizabeth City. 903 W. Lesson on the road to Duck Some times we have the opportunity to learn something in the most unexpected circumstances. Here's my lesson on the road to Duck. The road at the south end of Duck is undergoing some major construction work. This stretch is now gravel - dusty and bumpy. Traffic now slows to a crawl going through the construction zone. If you've been to Duck or Corolla on the Outer Banks, you know this road is the only road for travel in this area. Before Sunday school this past weekend we had a big discussion about the inconvenience and the snail pace causing traffic backups. Then Paul Keller told his story about living and driving on a farm. Don't you know to listen when you get the opportunity to hear sensible, common sense wisdom! Instead of driving at 5 MPH and hitting eve...

Sunday Visitors at Duck Church on the Outer Banks. I must say even here at the beginning of fall we have a large number of Sunday visitors at Duck Church on the Outer Banks. The members love these visitors.   No, we don't embarass our vistors by asking them to stand, but we do ask them to raise their hand. We are always amazed at the response.   Just think, these folks drive some distance to spend a few precious days on the beach. They've saved and rearranged schedules. They want to relax and excape from their hectic lives if just for a short time. Yet they come to church. Our Sunday visitors at Duck Church on the Outer Banks make a silent statement of a deep abiding faith. No matter where they go, they give back to God what is already His. They give their time. Have a safe drive home, ...

Travel to Duck NC this fall for the Jazz Festival Plan to travel to Duck NC this fall? Why not! The fall especially is beautiful on the Outer Banks. Temperatures remain warm because of the breeze across the warmer ocean waters. The summer traffic is gone. Humidity is lower. Over all this is really the perfect time. By the way, you really need to travel to Duck NC this fall for the 4th Annual Duck Jazz Festival on October 10 in the Duck Town Park. Fab music and it's FREE! For details check www.duckjazz.com. One more note: If you've been to Duck during or immediately after a heavy rain, you are painfully aware of the delay that takes place near the Tuckahoe neighborhood. This back log of water is locally known as Lake Tuckahoe. I've seen this area be all but closed to traffic. This makes ...

Why do you go to work? Financial gain certainly is the number one answer ... or is it? In real estate we can work for days on end without income (sometimes longer), so there should be little perks along the way for us. I am so fortunate to have my office with Resort Realty facing the Currituck Sound in Duck NC. As I parked my car this morning here is what greeted me. Isn't he magnificent! He tolerated me and camera for several minutes and about 50 shots at about 4 feet away. He must know how incredibly beautiful he is and just wanted to give me a thrill. And ... as if this gorgeous bird wasn't enough, a nutria swam into the shot. He's to the right. What a day! I'm rich in all things. Why do you go to work? I hope you have perks every day to enjoy as well Enjoy your holiday weekend and b...

Outer Banks Beach Patrol Protects Sea Turtles Here on the Outer Banks a group of volunteers (N.E.S.T.) works around the clock to find and protect endangered sea turtles as they come ashore to lay their eggs then return to the sea. While these volunteers work to protect these amazing animals, there are many benefits for the time given. Here is just one example of the benefits enjoyed as the Outer Banks Beach Patrol Protects Sea Turtles. Mike Powers enjoys sunrise in Duck as he searches for turtle tracks Ahhhhh. Sunrise over the Atlantic as this volunteer looks for tracks made by the female both coming ashore and leaving the beach once she has laid her eggs. Can you see the movement of her flippers below? After 75 to 110 days the nest "boils" and here is the result. You should see them as...
