Some students at Davidson College in Davidson, NC made a remix of the song, "I love college" into "I love commons". Commons is a dining hall on campus. I'm so proud of these students because they are so talented! Lake Norman has some great kids. Who would have thought of making fun of the dining hall? This is REALLY good and at present has over 10,000 views! I am sure most of you have heard real estate sales happen in cycles. Here is a short article that just reinforces what most of you believe but have not seen yet. A History Lesson on Real Estate Cycles                                                                       About every ten to twelve years, as an average, real estate values tend to double in most major metropolitan areas.  For example, in the 1920's, the original colonial homes sold for just under $2,500 in Long Island, New York.  Since then, real estate prices have doubled almost eight times over the last 80 years.  That averages out to a 100% increase approximately every ten years.  An interesting note to this is that about every ten to twelve years, real estate values must correct before they enter their next "doubling cy...

The Davidson Historical Society is having a free program this Sunday, the 15th of March 2009, on the history and controversy of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. The program will be located at the Davidson Town Hall.   Did you know?   The Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence was allegedly the FIRST declaration of the 13 colonies during the American Revolution. It was supposedly signed in Charlotte by a committee of local citizens. The controversy surrounding the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence is from the fact that the original signed document is not in existence. Some people wonder whether it ever existed.  It was supposedly signed on May 20, 1775. The date is widely known throughout Mecklenburg county's history and is also printed on yellow ribbons on the North C...

When one thinks of Lake Norman housing developments, Butterfly Meadows, Crab Apple Orchards and a suggested plant list derived from the "North Carolina Wildlife Federation  Recommended Native Plants for Wildlife" don't normally come to mind.  I think that is what I love most about Lake Norman because not only do we have lifestyles and homes designed for lake living, we also have innovative housing developments like The Woodlands in Davidson that is the first in North Carolina to be designated a Certified Wildlife Habitat. The result of a collaboration between Greathorn Properties, Inc, Ridgeline Development  and the North Carolina Wildlife Federation, the 70-acre site of The Woodlands housing development is a 57-home community located about 3 miles from downtown Davidson on a 70-acre s...

If you have taken Exit 30 off of I-77 lately you will know what an incredible transformation has taken place just off of the exit towards Davidson's Main Street!  All of a sudden a whole other community has cropped up including the new Harris Teeter Shopping Center, town homes, condos, offices, Davidson Day School and even an hotel.   In keeping with Davidson's small town charm, growth control, high standards and sense of community, all of the new construction, mostly brick,  is focused on walkable, Live-Work neighborhoods that are designed to compliment the character of old Davidson.  The largest of these is Harbour Place, a mixed-use project where you will find 29 Brownstones and 15 town homes surrounded by new shops, restaurants and several office buildings.           There are cu...

For those of you who don't frequent the charming Lake Norman college town of Davidson, you may not know that we now have THE BEST chocolate in the entire Lake Norman/Charlotte region right in our own back yard! Opened in the new Harris Teeter Shopping Center last August, Davidson Chocolate Co. is a labor of love for owners and confectioners John and Sue Elliott. Using classic recipes from the Drost Family of Holland dating back to 1887, they create their incredible array of chocolate truffles, confections, fudge and specialty items right in their shop.   At much personal sacrifice I have made several trips to Davidson Chocolate Co. to buy samplings of their truffles and bark which I can say with great enthusiasm are truly incredible! They offer about 14 different flavors of truffles...

Stephane Curry is having a bad game at the Conseco Fieldhouse against Purdue. Don't get me wrong, he's a great player and he is having flashes of brilliance, but he came out of the gates 0 for 5.  There really wasn't much he could right in the first few minutes of the game.  He came down the court, shot the ball, missed and watched Purdue run the ball back down the floor to score. That happened a lot in the first few minutes of the game. So much so that Purdue was up 21 to nothing after a while. That's almost like the Tar Heels' painful defeat at the hands of Kansas last year in the NCAA tournament.  To me, it's obvious that Curry just went cold this game. It's really clear that he has a ton of skill.  He is an excellent passer, he can handle the ball, he can shoot and he can drive.  Oh...

According to their website, they returned three starters and eleven lettermen.  This includes four of their top six scorers. Stephen Curry is back as well. He is quickly becoming a star on the national stage.  He seems to be able to score at will and take over a game.  Although they won against NC State tonight, they will have a bigger challenge when they play Duke in a month on January 7.   In the meantime, th...

As college basketball starts to get back into the swing of things, There is a local college athlete that means a lot to Charlotte NC.  Stephen Curry plays basketball at Davidson College, which is just a few miles outside of Charlotte.  It is a small college town that is becoming more and more a part of Charlotte NC Real Estate. Stephen Curry is the son of Dell Curry, who holds a special place in the hearts of many Charlotteans.  Dell Curry was one of the original members of the Charlotte Hornets basketball team when they were formed in the expansion draft in 1989. Dell Curry came of the bench, usually, but his ability to shoot from behind the three point line made him a valuable weapon. He is currently an assitant coach of the Charlotte Bobcats.
