Show of Hands, Who had to Chase Down A Couple Of Runaway Horses This Week? I did!! The great thing about being the on-site agent at Portofino in Clayton, North Carolina is that there is never a dull moment. For example, I was driving through on Thursday morning, checking on the homes when I saw a resident in obvious distress talking to the fence installers who were finishing up her new fence. I got out and asked if she needed help, she did, both her horses had got out and were in the neighborhood. I grabbed a head collar and we both jumped in our cars. At that moment we saw both horses galloping around the corner heading for the clubhouse. I took the construction road ( at great speed) which I hoped might allow me the chance to cut them off if they decided to head for the exit of Portof...

A Diary of Building a Custom Home in Portofino in Clayton...Day 6 and 7     So we have excavated the footprint of the home, we have dug and layed the foundations. We let the foundations set and then the crew assemble the forms for the basement walls.             Once the wall frames are installed it is time to bring in the pump and the cement. There is no time to waste and they don't start until all the trucks are lined up on the road. The inspector came out to inspect the frames and gave the go ahead to begin pumping.       It is obvious that this crew have done this many times before as every one had a job and once that cement started rolling they had to move fast. You can see the amount of re-bar used to add strength to these walls. They aren't going anywhere. As the concrete is pump...

Building a Custom Home in Portofino in Clayton...A Diary,Day 2 and 3 Alright so the lot has been excavated and now it is time to frame the footers, very important. Every thing is important here but this is a big heavy house so the footings need to be right. This home is also going to have a large basement, once the re-bar is in and the frames are set, the following day they brought in the cement trucks and the pump truck. The cement is dumped into a big tank at the back of the pump truck and then the boom operator positions the opening over the frames and starts the cement flowing.

Building A Custom Home in Portofino in Clayton...A Diary, Day 1 For Illustrative Purpose Only   The first thing we start with is the raw land, in this case a very nice lot with some pine trees and a great view. In todays world the bucket of the grader is remotely wired to a GPS system which tells the operator how close and how much dirt they need to move. This basement home lot was dug in a day by one person. The Custom home is being built by Corker Enterprises and it is on Lot 31 in Portofino in Clayton. Portofino was just named 'Community of the Year 2010' and it is because of homes like this one and the builders like Steve Corker who are on the Builder Team at Portofino.     Building a Custom Home starts in the design and drawing stage as each home is different and each time the buil...

Grandparents Think! Will The Grand Kids Want To Come Visit You if you live in a 55 Plus? Lets see which grandparents do we want to spend the summer with? Grandparents A live in a cool community that has three pools, a lazy river, a jungle gym on every corner, lots of kids our age. A fishing pond, near the city, a movie theater a block away, pony rides!!!! And Grandparents B live in a 55 plus community that also has a pool but it's always adult swim....and there's Bunko!! Seriously, I have had a number of grandparents tell me lately that one of the reasons they would choose to live in a certain community is because of the amenities that would encourage their grand kids to come visit! In North Carolina, we see a couple of types of migration, job seekers and college grads who decide to sta...

Need Something To Blog About.....I have Three Blog Posts in a short trip to Clayton, NC. First up was the Clayton Chamber of Commerce, I was dropping off some information packets for Portofino and met the director and his staff. We chatted about the real estate market and what sort of inquires they were getting. This could be two posts as the building they are in is a historic old bank building. Writing about the Clayton Chamber of Commerce plus the ActiveRain juice should bring some hits.   Next up was the new parking lot on Main Street in Downtown Clayton. Why write about a parking lot??? Well, its in Downtown Clayton and Clayton, NC is my local market. It's also a really nice parking lot in a circle ( rare) with beautiful paving stones, benches and planters. It was a gravel and dirt...

White Christmas in Clayton,North Carolina, What Are The Chances? Pretty slim as a matter of fact. The records for Raleigh show practically not a single significant snowfall on Christmas in the Triangle. Now you can get technical about this one as it did not start snowing until late on Christmas Day and we were all in bed. However we awoke St. Steven's Day to six inches of the white stuff and a forced day of rest and movie watching....until the power went out, what started as a dream day quickly turned to a nightmare. Never fear though within two hours the power was restored and the heat was back on. So we had a great time in the snow, and best of all the temperature for New Years Day is going to be 60 degrees.... see ya!

Why Do Raleigh Police Officers Love To Live In Clayton NC? This question came up at my closing last Friday, my  buyer client, a Raleigh Police Officer is in the same class as the Raleigh Police Officer who was the buyer at my last closing. What are the chances, well pretty good according to the attorney in Clayton. Turns out he has done maybe fifty settlements for Raleigh Police Officers over the last few years. There are any number of great reasons to live in Clayton, affordable housing, great schools, great subdivisions with amenities, like golf, swimming etc. Clayton is in Johnston County a largely rural county so there are financing options like the 100% USDA loan. Clayton is thirty minutes to Raleigh (less with blue lights)! Clayton is two hours to Carolina Beach. There are lots of...
