Moving to Charlotte NC?  Economics are a major advantage that Charlotte has over other cities--it's just a great place to live, work and play! C harlotte was perceived, many years ago as a textile center and now, a banking center. While Charlotte remains proud of the industries with which it has been associated over the years, this small, segmented stereotype sells the city's economy short. Charlotte boasts a vibrant, balanced economy that encompasses many sectors, as well as companies that range in size from microbusiness to multinational.  Charlotte's economy is easily one of the healthiest and strongest in the nation. Diverse business interests shelter Charlotte from side effects resulting from slowdowns in certain sectors, corporate mergers and buyouts and other economic challenges...

Charlotte NC PROVIDENCE SPRINGS Market Report:  YTD 12/30/08 Formerly farm land, belonging to the Springs family, Providence Springs is now a quaint neighborhood nestled between the Arboretum and Rea Road (on the city-side of Highway 51). Gene Harrington & Ken Dowd (developers of other upscale neighborhoods such as Berkley and Highgate), developed the sanctuary-style neighborhood, building custom homes on winding streets with flat lots, surrounded by mature trees.   As you enter Providence Springs, you will continue past a relatively new pre-fab development into the original neighborhood (which begins at Megington Drive) with 128 gorgeous custom and semi-custom homes.  Just minutes from the Arboretum, only 9 miles from Uptown and mere minutes from I-485, Providence Springs is in a prime...

Charlotte NC's Historic Fourth Ward Historic Fourth Ward is comprised of the the northwest quadrant of Charlotte's Uptown area which was resurrected in the mid-1800s and was one of the more prosperous areas of town providing homes to local merchants, physicians and ministers.  The First Methodist, First Presbyterian, and St. Peters Episcopal Churches are all part of the Historic Fourth Ward and by the 1900's, became nearly desolate as many residents moved to the 'suburbs' of Dilworth and Myers Park.   Many of the beautiful Victorian homes were either destroyed or became commercial buildings and by 1970, Fourth Ward had fallen into a state of neglect.  The late 20th century brought restoration to Fourth Ward and is now a thriving part of Charlotte's Uptown.     The area, located between ...

Monster Trucks are coming to Charlotte too.  Although my last post was about Rent, I can't overlook the fact that there are going to be giant trucks driving over a bunch of cars right next to the venue that will be hosting Rent. What do you expect from the place that also hosts one of the biggest stock car races in the United States. The night is going to be full of all kinds of motorsports madness. I think there will be more than monster trucks that night. According to their website, there will also be legends cars indoors, which is crazy.  For those of you who don't know, legends cars are little race cars that are purpose built. They are little more than four wheels, and a chassis with a motorcycle engine. But they are super fast. Kids who want to be race car drivers start their caree...

If you're into broadway musicals, you're in luck in Charlotte NC.  Rent is officially done on Broadway, according to its website, but that means that is has hit the road and will be in cities all over the United States.  Rent is based on La Boheme - it's an opera - but is played as a rock musical set in New York City.  It has been on Broadway for 12 seasons and seen more than 5,000 performances, making it one of the longest running shows. Actually it was the seventh longest running show.  The show hits Cleveland and Buffalo before it sees the ground without snow in North Carolina. They actually play in durham for a few shows before they come to Charlotte - which is okay with me because Durham is a cool place too.  The show runs from Jan. 27 to Feb. 1. There are shows on Tuesday, Wednesd...

Check this out. DeAngelo Williams is about to break a record held by hall of famer Jim Brown, the Charlotte Observer says.  He has six touchdowns that resulted from runs thirty yards or longer this year.  Jim Brown did the same thing in 1963.  Listen, it might not be the most coveted record in all of football, I think yardage has that distinction, but seems like an important statistic.  It means that Williams broke through tackles and made plays where the play was probably designed only to get ten yards. If I were on the verge of breaking a record held by somebody like Jim Brown, I'd be pretty proud of myself.  Unfortuately, I'm not a professional football player. It says a lot about the Panthers season in Charlotte NC.  Williams has been a stand out this season, actually for the past f...

Check it out, next month at the convention center, the American Bus Association will be showing off their best buses at the convention center in Charlotte NC.  You don't have to be retired to check it out. In fact, there are many school children who take field trips on big charter buses. This seems like a strange post, but, I think it might be a fun afternoon. If you can imagine all the stuff that they stuff into an SUV these days, just think of all the cool gadgets and gizmos that they can stuff into an over the road bus.  This might be the knid of thing that is only interesting to people who are in the charter bus business. Actually, I don't even know if you can get in without a pass.   But, it's important to me because it says that Charlotte is a destination for conventions. That mea...

Let's say you are interested in Organic foods. Where can you go in Charlotte to get them? Although nonorganic foods are probably non-poisonous, some folks prefer organic foods. I think that it may be imporant to some folks who value a healthy lifestyle simply because they are probably harder to find than regular food. I think it may be important to someone who is looking for Charlotte NC Real Estate to know that there are organic products available than someone who isn't simply becaue non organic food is probably available in Charlotte almost anywhere.  I digress. There is one website that serves organic food that seems pretty interesting.  They deliver organic produce right to your door.  What an idea. They offer a box of fruits and vegetables for $30-$50 that includes stuff like cabba...

Now that the Meineke Car Care Bowl has finished, I think it's time to talk about the great events that Charlotte NC puts on that are just like the Meineke Car Care Bowl.  The venues that Charlotte has are big and one the level of many other cities.  That's why Charlotte is frequently the venue for the first few rounds of NCAA Playoff basketball at the beginning of March. It was once home to the final four - sometime in the 90s. I forgot actually what year.  But, the point is that it can play host to some of the biggest events in america.  Actually, it hosted the final four in the old arena where the Charlotte Hornets used to play. Unfortunately, that arena has been torn down.  But, the downtown arena offers the same type of flexibility and events. So, as a resident or future resident of...

Charlotte NC just witnessed a great game in the downtown stadium.  Carolina and West Virginia traded touchdowns for most of the first half. But finally West Virginia came up big in the end.  Boy, what a game. The Meineke Car Care Bowl is one of the newer members of the college bowl circut. I think it was created a few years ago when they built Panthers stadium.  I cant think of another stadium big enough to hold the number of people needed for a bowl game.  It was started in 2002 and features the Fifth or Sixth seed from the ACC and the third seed from the Big East. Chapel Hill has been in the bowl game before.  The game was a great idea for Charlotte NC because West Virginia is only five or six hours on I-77.  For a bowl game, that isn't far and there are plenty of Mountaineers who mad...

Think about this, 33 million people, travel into and out of Charlotte NC's airport, called Charlotte Douglas International.  Most of those people traveled domestically, even though Charlotte Douglas has international flights. Charlotte NC is a connected city. Transportation is easy and efficient. In fact, it's easy to get to the airport now more than ever thanks to the outer loop. I-485 makes getting to the airport a snap from places that used to be difficult. The airport is on the west side of the city, making it difficult to get to from the east side and places like Matthews and Mint Hill. But the new road means that travel time is reduced. The city has been helped tremendously by the fact that US Airways chose Charlotte Douglas International Airport as their hub. Now, when a city is...

The Charlotte Douglas international airport has become an important part of Charlotte's economy and its appeal as a great place to live and work.  According to its website, it is sixteenth nationwide in terms of the number of passengers it handles on a yearly basis. It handles 2 million international passengers a year, 19 million regular air carrier passengers and 11 million regional passengers.  It also handles ove a hundred thousand tons of air freight a year.  That's a lot of cargo and people.   Here is a list of the non stop international service offered by Charlotte's international carriers.  International Service (Destinations listed are non-stop flights)•Antiqua*•Aruba•Bridgetown, Barbados•Belize*  •Bermuda*•Cancun, Mexico•Cozumel,Mexico*•Frankfurt, Germany•Freeport,  Bahamas•Gra...

Every game is the biggest game of the season in the NFL. But the Panthers are doing well and headed for the playoffs.  Let's hope they can get some home field advantage in Charlotte, NC. The panthers were given some help when Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost to the San Diego Chargers last week. Actually, that was something that I was not thinking about at all. I can't believe they lost to the Chargers, actually. Anyway, that means that Carolina has probably wrapped up the playoff spot for their division. Which means that there will probably be a game or two at home. They don't have the best record in the NFL, so they may not have home field advantage for the entire thing. Either way, there will be some games at home, which will be a boon to the economy of Charlotte, and give people a great act...

Some Facts about Inspection Services in Charlotte, NC for 2008 Current reports show that you might be considering buying a home, but national news reports cause you to be concerned, so you are waiting for the market to be better. You may have worries about finding a suitable mortgage, but at the Houston Housing Forum last year, leading lenders in Houston made it clear that such loans are readily available for qualified buyers. It has also been shown that you are using the internet more in your quest for a home. In part, this reliance on the internet has been to find the best value. In fact, finding the best deal has been the main goal of many buyers. With these considerations, I noticed that there has not been much done in the way of surveys of the inspection market at this time, so I o...

So, How many of you got video cameras for Christmas? If you got one - Congratulations!  So what now?  Sure,... you've taken it out of the box, charged the battery and taken some footage of the family, right?  But now you're thinking.....can I use this for my business?    The answer is yes.  Do it!  Get out there and shoot some video of one of your listings.  But first..... practice.   Then practice some more, then some more.  Then do a video of your own home, when no one is home to bother you.  Watch it alone, ...Cringe a little .... Learn a little .... Then go do it again.  Repeat as necessary.  You will find that the more you practice and watch your footage, the more you will pick apart what you don't like, correct it, and churn out better footage.   Now what?   Contact one of your se...

2008 Meineke Car Care Bowl, SOLD OUT! The 2008 Meineke Car Care Bowl will take place tomorrow, Saturday, December 27, 2008, with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at the Bank of America Stadium and will be televised nationally on ESPN.  Raycom Sports, owner and operator of the game, proudly announced that for the third time since the inception of the bowl in 2002, all 73,000 tickets have sold!  The meeting between North Carolina (8-4) and West Virginia (8-4) at Bank of American Stadium here in Charlotte, is a win-win for the participating teams this year with Charlotte being in driving distance for both teams and fans.  The expectations of other bowls are nowhere near the sellout that this bowl has in the face of the struggling economy.  The Meineke Car Care Bowl, with a $1 million payout per team, f...
