Happy New Year, 2023Southern Traditions from a Charlotte Foodie! Thursday evening after work, I made my first grocery run after a busy Christmas week that was filled with entertaining, LOTS of food prep and a strong desire NOT to add another item from the grocer to my, already over-stocked refrigerator! I did not want to have to grocery shop again for today's traditional meal. We have never missed a year of Southern tradition and having everything - yes EVERYTHING - on hand is a MUST!I actually had to go to 3 different grocers to find that all of them were out of the must-have traditional menu item, ham hock! Yes, you read that right - we eat ham hock on New Year's Day! Granted, one bite of any of the combination is all you have to eat but, I still have to prepare it on this day, each a... 01/01/2023

Speechless Sundays - Kitty SocietyWe still had a few guests from our Humane Society event when the kitties decided to gang up on me to get to the food that was in front of the kitties! OH MY GOODNESS, were they ever relentless...cute, but, relentless! LOLA fun night was had by all and the local shelters were blessed with a ton of blanket donations. A 'thank you' hardly seems enough to the wonderful clients and neighbors who donated this year. Speechless Sundays - Late Fall Colorful Sunset Despite the cooler evenings (and heaven forbid, darkness at 4:30 PM), we are enjoying the brilliant sunsets every chance we get. The fire keeps us warm and the peacefulness of the lake, along with the quiet of the night, all create an ambiance we both enjoy so much. We share our 'art-in-the-sky' with our friends every chance we get as well! It's the most relaxing, majestic experience - what a way to cap off a busy day at work too. A special note - the reflection in the water shows the silhouette of the trees and the pink clouds' reflection. It was a spectacular sunset last evening!  I hope you have the opportunity to enjoy a sunset or two this week. Saturday's Shots - Incredible Foliage in Charlotte 2022I mentioned to George Souto that I often thought of him when I awaken to a gorgeous fall foliage show. I don't always capture shots of our view but, on occasion, I remember my camera when I head out for my morning walk.Sheri Sperry - MCNE® wrote a post of gratitude about fall in Sedona which also reminded me to share our spectacular foliage this year!This was not taken this week but, we are still seeing brilliant reds this week which, North Carolinians will tell you, historically means we are in for a cold winter - one cold enough to kill, not only bacteria & viruses but, annoying pests in and around our homes. Those neusances, in our area of late, include stink bugs, beatles, red ants, household ants and more. Charlotteans are hope... 11/26/2022

Speechless Sundays - Sunset after a Day of StormsOur first day of the dreadful Daylight Saving Time was just an ugly day all around...we had storms and it poured nearly all day long. The rain, not only took more of the gorgeous leaves off of the trees, but delayed the painting of our home another day! Did I say dreadful Daylight Saving Time?!!HOWEVER, the storms brought clouds that finally parted by the end of the day, leading to a spectacular sunset this evening. The sky was such a deep hue that it was even 'reflected' in the grass!I hope you all have a wonderful first week of DSL!
