The reasons why so many of Bozeman’s inhabitants chose to live in this area are often not directly related to career advancement or extremely high earning potential. And much to our benefit, they include choosing to live where you love to be. For those of us who have lived in the region for most or all of our lives, we truly tend to take for granted the fact that we live in a place where many people save all year to spend a week of vacation. In fact, many people who move away from the area to “see the world” often find themselves immediately starting to plan on how to come back. We have the opportunity to live in the midst of clean air, open space, green parks, mountain splendor and views that go on for miles. A recent rating in Backpacker Magazine brought some of these amenities to the...

I recently had the opportunity to be a part of a conference call with other real estate brokers throughout the country to listen to the unveiling of Business Roundtable's new recommendations on how to re-energize the housing market in the United States. Richard A. Smith, the CEO of Realogy (the organization of which ERA Landmark is a franchisee), has been in Washington, D.C. serving in the capacity of chair of the Business Roundtable's Housing Working Group. The Business Roundtable is an association of chief executive officers of many leading companies in the U.S. The group's objective was to develop ideas on how to improve the current housing market, which in turn should stimulate economic growth as a whole. These solutions were then passed along to Congress and the White House for con...

By GAIL SCHONTZLER Chronicle Staff Writer Like a parting gift to Bozeman High School's retiring principal, Newsweek magazine this week again named the school to its Top U.S. High Schools list. The 2009 list rates 1,500 U.S. high schools as being the nation's top 6 percent, based on having a large number of students taking college-level Advanced Placement tests.Bozeman High this year ranked No. 585 on the magazine's "challenge index" with a score of 2.007, which means that the school had twice as many students of all grade levels taking AP tests as it had graduating seniors. The list also showed that 52 percent of Bozeman's graduating seniors took and passed at least one AP test. The national average was 15 percent. No other Montana high school made the list, according to the magazine's on...

Though this may not sound like a high placement, Newsweek magazine voted Bozeman High School, in Bozeman, Montana, number 585 out of the top 1500 public high schools in the United States' top high schools list 2009. According to Newsweek, there were over 21,000 high schools in the U.S. in 2008. About the formula for determining the top U.S. Schools list, Newsweek noted the method used to rank public schools is based on a ratio devised by Jay Mathews, which basically takes the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests all students took at a school in the 2008 school year and divides it by the number of graduating seniors. _______________________________________________ "...We are committed to providing your child with a quality education in a safe a...

The recovery of the downtown explosion area on the 200 block of East Main between Bozeman and Rouse enters its fourth month with staging for the site cleanup almost complete. Apart from extended - and still ongoing - investigations on the cause of the explosion, the time spent has included the shoring of the brickwork on the two buildings that served as the firebreaks to the disaster - the Montana Rug Gallery building at the corner of Bozeman and Main, and the Osbourne Block building housing Starky's Deli and The Great Rocky Mountain Toy Company. Site cleanup is currently scheduled for June 12, and will take approximately three weeks to completion. 1811 West Dickerson, Suite 17 Bozeman MT 59715 (406) 556-5005

In recent weeks, Ted and Heather Fust have been driving around the Bozeman area, looking at the houses for sale. NICK WOLCOTT/CHRONICLE Chris Omland inspects a Bozeman home while shopping for a house Friday. Some new statistics indicate a possible brighter future for Bozeman's housing market. But they haven't actually gone inside any yet."Financially, we're not quite ready," Heather said. The Fusts, a couple in their early 30s, want to take advantage of declining home prices and low mortgage rates. But before they buy anything, they want to build their down payment and make sure that they wind up with a mortgage they could pay with just one income, should one of them lose their job."We've been watching the market for the last two years - since we moved here," Heather said.
