While not recession-proof, the Midwest and more specifically the St. Charles County region, has escaped the recent economic woes and mortgage crisis better than most. O’Fallon is a case in point. The St. Charles County Association of Realtors notes that in May, 102 single-family properties in O’Fallon were sold. That’s a 21 percent increase over the 84 houses sold in April. At the national level, home sales rose 2.4 percent from April to May (National Association of Realtors). On the flip side, the average sale price was down 7 percent from a year ago.Even considering the lower sale price, the movement of homes with a SOLD sign in the front lawn indicates a slow but steady return to housing normality. About a month, or so, ago my darling and I went to the O Fallon MO DQ for a treat and we just so happened to take our Pug, Missy, with us.  We went thru the drive thru and placed our order, when we drove up to the window the young lady said wait jsut a minute and went over and got a small cup of vanilla ice cream for the dog.  Well now everytime we go and we take Missy with us this is how she acts once the order is placed. What is age all about? What a difference a day makes......... Tomorrow is Memorial Day, a day that we honor those that have served in the US Military and have died protecting our nation and its freedoms.  We in St Charles County Missouri have several Veteran Memorials: St. Peters, Missouri Veterans Memorial   O Fallon, Missouri Veterans Memorial   Lake St. Louis, Missouri Veterans Memorial   Then there is the most familiar of all of our nation's memorials Arlington National Cemetery   Carved out of 1,100 acres this 624 acre site is the most widely know of the 120 national cemeteries.
