I represent taxpayers in the greater Saint Louis area, the state of Missouri and by being admitted to practice before the IRS can represent tax payers nationwide. Recently the IRS has stepped up there audit activity simply by contesting simple tax returns.One of the strategies that I have seen just in the last couple of weeks is questioning entries on tax returns by requesting supporting information. One tax payer who had prepared there own tax return contacted me regarding self employment deductions on there scheldule C. What I found interesting is that after reviewing the letter and the return the IRS hadn't bothered to even look at the scheldule on the return.
