The area of Missouri where I live is full of smaller towns with limited restaurant choices.  There are some real gems hiding in these little towns, but the opening of a new restaurant always makes me very happy! Vernon is not so small, with about 5,000 people, and it certainly isn't without restaurants.  But many of them, particularly along the easy-access business loop just off Interstate 44, are the standard fast food outlets. So I was quite excited when a previously empty restaurant building re-opened as the locally owned Red Barn & Grill.  It's home cooking, but not bland cooking. Nice atmosphere, lots of cheerful sunflowers in the decor.  Extremely high quality roast beef on the French dip sandwich.  Blackened chicken on a salad, big thumbs up.  Good burgers, hand shaped pattie...

Look you I can do it too!  I know this is a cosmic trick to get me to start writing more about my part of our lovely state. (not my area of expert but one of interest)  One buyer's story, (I know they are 'out there' and do exist) One from a seller's point of view  (we have seller's so this will be easy)  and of course ONE where I admit I was BAD (or good depending on ...

I am still (in my mind) a newbie so I am always on the outlook for ideas to post about.  http://www.mtvernonchamber.com/  Here is the link to our little towns chamber news. I am sure that I will learn to do the copy and paste stuff some day.  But for today, I am thrilled to have an "opener" and get to brag on our town.   Gotta go so I can check out the TAXI schedule.  be good  cw Mt. Vernon, Missouri is a unique community. It possesses, within its city boundaries, everything that is "small-town" America: from public gatherings on the lawn of the historic courthouse to friends and family gatherings at more than a half-dozen parks found throughout the town. Mt. Vernon even offers a 50-cent city taxi service.         What are the 'interesting' things about your community that make you grin...
