  Apple Butter Days in Mt. Vernon, Mo, definitely brought out hundreds and thousands of folks to the Square this weekend, October 7, 8, and 9th.   Rick and I enjoyed a quick drive from Springfield, Mo, only about 25 minutes on I-44 to get the festivities.               As a child, I had attended the Apple Butter Days as my family had a farm in Mt. Vernon.   I was a part of the Brownies and I remember having to sell kind of crafts that we had made.   So, after some discussion of what to do with our Saturday, we headed off to Apple Butter Days.              Finding a parking place was a little challenging as everyone parked on the streets in front of the houses that lined the streets.   It was a beautiful Saturday day, and the walk of ten blocks was fine with us.    Once we arrived, there... 10/08/2011

  Yesterday my grandson Lane woke me up and said that his mom had left a note for me.  She had dropped him and his sister off at our house on her way to work (No I didn't hear them come in b/c it was not my normal day to watch the kids)  Any way he handed me a note that said:   I read it out loud and looked at Lane (age 6)  He then handed me a zip-lock bag with a test strip in it.  The strip had TWO PINK LINES! I then turned the "note" over and on the back it said, I asked Lane if he knew what this all meant and he said NO-  I said your mom will tell you later (I didn't know if they had told the kids yet) I text Kelly to say congrats and that I will LOVE THEM.  She wrote back "THEM"? Last week, I visited the University of Missouri's Southwest Center Agricultural Experiment Station.  That's quite a mouthful, so I'll just call it the Center. The Center has been around since 1959.   Their mission is to perform continuing agricultural and horticultural research on an 898-acre site just south of Mount Vernon, Missouri. For the last 46 years, they've held an annual public Field Day, and this was my first one.  I had a wonderful, educational time.  Various professionals from the Center, other branches of the University, and other universities made short educational presentations and gave tours covering a variety of topics.  The general areas of discussion were Beef, Dairy, Forage, Horticulture, and Grapes.  Questions were welcomed. Living in a small town has it share of excitement. The Baptist church auctioned off this house to be moved and Phillip B won the bid.  As a local REALTOR I enjoy getting to work outside the box every now and then.  A lot was purchased and developed and the house is in the process of getting to travel to its new location.   A couple of weeks from now I should have a sign in the yard and hopefully a new buyer signing on the dotted line.  Kinda exciting to see 'your' new home rolling into place.  A bit of modern history- pre/fab the old fashioned way!   BEFORE Picture   Question is do I list it as a Mobile home?
