With Thanksgiving so close, I thought I would take this time and just say, that I truly love what I do and I love being a Realtor.  I have the opportunity each day, each week to help people realize their dreams. It's an honor and a priviledge to find homes where people can make memories, celebrations are taking place, and where family and friends get together and tell their stories and their dreams.  What a great joy it is to do what we do.  It's a tremendous sense of satisfaction to be in this business for service. I like the fact that I'm always learning and I know that I can bring that knowledge and perspective to my customers and even to my community.   Enjoy each day and enjoy each lesson, remember to live, love, and laugh.  Have a blessed and wonderful rest of the year!

We all love treats and the trick to safe treating is preparation, communication and a watchful eye!  Make sure for the children's sake the you take more precautions for halloween night: Here's a list of a few safety precautions to keep in mind for Halloween Night. 1) Make sure your children are lit.  Carry a flashlight or glow stick, also consider reflective tape for black costumes. 2) No running, darkness and costumes are an awkward mix, walk from house to house. 3) Make sure you stick to the rules!  While motorists should be more mindful on this night, it's better to be safe.  Stay on sidewalks when possible, and watch for traffic signals. 4) Only approach houses with lights on.  Dark houses may mean no one is home or they just don't want to be disturbed. 5) Steer clear of unfamiliar ...

If you are selling your Northville home in the winter you still want to have curb appeal.  In Michigan homes look a little duller without green grass and leaves on the trees.  But now is not the time to slack off on your home's appearance.  Make your home stand out against the competition.  Here are 9 Northville real estate home selling tips. 1.)  Mulch  Put down a fresh layer of mulch right before the winter sets in.  Make sure the beds are weeded too. 2.)  Snow  Keep the snown shoveled so the house looks neat.  You want the buyers to make it to your front door without any accidents. Prevent slips and falls by clearing your driveway, walkways and stairs of snow, ice and leaves.   Put down ice melt where necessary 3.)  Details New bling - a new door handle, a new mailbox, welcome mat, ...

IN ACTIVE RAIN -vs- INACTIVE RAIN.....there is a difference and I am living proof. I am investor in Wayne, Michigan, a western suburb of Detroit. A fellow investor suggested that I join this on-line network, Active Rain,  for Real Estate agents and investors. So I checked it out. I signed up. I read some blogs and I even posted a blog. At the time, I didn't understand blogging and how it would help me with my real estate investing. That was August of 2008. For the next year I didn't visit the site and I didn't see any benefit from my being in Active Rain. So in September of 2009 I decided to check it out again. I looked at my 1,500 points versus other people with 100,000-300,000 points. What was I doing wrong? I read some more blogs. I started learning from other peoples tips and their ...

Saving funds for a down payment should be part of an overall program to get your finances in order prior to shopping for a home. By saving money for a down payment will help you determine how much of a house payment you can afford each month.  Even if you don't use your savings toward the down payment it is great to have a nest egg for the unexpected items of home ownership.  During this period you should round up your financial records, examine your spending habits, and set a budget you can live with. Setting a budget and house payment is the most important thing you need do to do before starting to look for a home.  Banks and lenders will usually loan you more than you can afford to pay each month.  You don't want to be house poor.  You want to be able to take vacations and enjoy life...

Yes most Real estate agents can tell the difference between serious buyers and people who don't think our time is valuable.  I remember one person who actually thought I was going to stop at a garage sale for them.  No I am not your chauffeur to a garage sale. I have stopped with clients at a convenience store for them to pick up something so they wouldn't have to run back out.  I wait for clients at homes when people are running late because of traffic or other personal reasons.  We wait a lot it's part of the business.  People are going to be late, it's that simple.  We need to be early and on time for our clients. Like yesterday morning I had a client that called me 15 minutes late saying he would be another 15 minutes late.  (For a total of 30 minutes late)  But he has a physical ha...

I got a little surprise today.  I met with some Metro Detroit first time home buyers today.  They are going to be a new resident at Botsford hospital and relocating to Michigan from out of state.  What surprised me is "not that they found me, Russ Ravary on Active Rain" but that they chose me on the comments I made.  Not totally on the blogs I wrote, but a comment! I never realized that prospective buyers and sellers can search, and find just about anything you write on the rain.  They chose me from a comment I made.  The blog was about all the germs you can get from a door knob. I had commented "that I was going to die from all the doorknobs I touch in a day"  The home buyer said they wanted to check out what type of person I was.  I never thought about it.  I'm not a controversial per...

Here are some tips. In the last week I have seen 70 homes with 4 different people relocating to Michigan.  These are things that will help you sell your home.1) Get rid of the smells.  Don't let the wet dog in.  Smoke outside for the months you are showing the house.  Burn a lightly scented candle.2) Clean the walk of snow.  I had a person with MS and they to trudge thru ice and snow.  Not a smart way to impress a potential buyer.  You didn't think enough of them to shovel the snow.  You must not want to sell the house bad enough.3)  Make the house available for showings.  The ones that cancelled showings or were too busy to show the house, we didn't see.  You missed out.  Because these are 4 people that have to buy.  We are not coming back!  They had a short amount of time to view hous...
