Although the rain cancelled many Saturday activities, it didn't dampen spirits. This year's Victorian Festival in Northville was enjoyed by many, including those decked out in their Victorian finest. I particularly enjoyed see the vintage baseball game featuring the Northville Eclipse against the Greenfield Village's Lah-De-Dahs. A kinder, gentler game played without gloves, I was surprised to learn these two teams are just a few of the many in a vintage baseball league. Mill Race Village was in full swing with lots to see and do as the Basket Guild demonstrated basket weaving, the Country Store sold their wares, school was in session at Oak Wash School, and Victorian Teas were hosted at the Cady House. The weather was gorgeous.  A slight breeze, lots of sun, and not too warm.  U of M pulled a huge comeback yesterday and Michigan State won big against their opponent.  Plus the Lion's fired Matt Millen this week.  This was the first full week of Detroit's new mayor and the old one is just a piece of history.  So it is a great week in Metro Detroit!  Even on the real estate side it has been good.  I received a good short sale listing from Active Rain, got one purchase offer accepted, and another short sale offer in.  And smoothed over some ruffled feathers on a home inspection and closing.  It seems I am working with a lot of short sales.  I think a lot of short sales are a waste of time but sometimes the banks do cooperate and make it all worthwhile.  Sometimes that small percentage of ... 09/28/2008

Fall is in the air and Northville's 20th Annual Victorian Festival is just around the corner. Kicking off with a Parade through Downtown Northville Friday, September 12th, the Victorian Festival celebrates a simpler time. You should because radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. As a tasteless, odorless, colorless gas, there are no physical warning signs of the presence of radon. Testing is the only way to find out. While radon isn't a certainty in Michigan, there are definitely pockets in the most unlikely places. I've been surprised by high levels (over the 4.0 pCl recommended by the EPA) of radon in some of the homes that have been tested. In one case, it spiked to 70 during a one hour period! I always recommend my buyers have a radon test done during their inspection period. If radon is found in the home, then the remediation and repair is on the seller's dime and the buyers have peace of mind that it's no longer an issue. Years ago when I first started in the Michigan mortgage businessI went to a company sponsored conference at Bushwood Golf Course.  They had a little banquet center that the company I worked for rented out.
