For the last ten years, my husband Jay and I have been camping along the shore in Bar Harbor Maine at the Bar Harbor KOA.  People often ask us why we keep going back, the same spot the same time frame every year and my only answer is ...we love it here! The McGillicuddy Campsite         For the last ten years this has been one of two of our annual summer vacations. We enjoy 10 days in Bar Harbor every August and camp on Western Bay which gives us awesome sunset views and allows us to do the things we enjoy.  Biking, kayaking, swimming and just enjoying! Check out our video Playlist which is full of videos we have taken over the last few years! Bar Harbor Video Playlist

Southern NH and the Seacoast Area Lifestyle We totally love living in Southern NH! Love the lifestyle, love being near the coast and close enough to take day trips to the glorious while mountains of New Hampshire.  Our passion during our "off" time is to jump into our motor home and camp somewhere for a few days. Being virtual agents and connected 24-7 via our mobile devices means we work long hours but that also means we can work from anywhere. Bar Harbor Maine One of our favorite places to visit is Bar Harbor Maine, we camp on a lovely spot along Western Bay at the Bar Harbor KOA. We've been camping there for a week every August as our annual "vacation" for about 10 years now. We love it and love that it's so close to home. This Video Play-list has videos that were created over the ye...

Wordless Wednesday...Acadia National Park Mount Desert Island MaineAcadia National Park, located on Mount Desert Island (MDI) in Maine, is a 35,000 acre National treasure consisting of mountains, lakes, ocean and forest. If you have not had the chance to visit, I strongly urge you to make it a vacation destination that you will never forget. "Picnik Show" Create a free slideshow with Picnik!   A popular attraction along the Park Loop Road is Thunder Hole. At mid-tide, you will usually find Thunder Hole at it's loudest, when the waves rush into an ocean-carved pocket in the stone. This is a typical event. Note the people standing at the observatory platform. They can't always stand there as you will see in the YouTube video below.   If you would like to know why I chose Seacoast New Hamp...

The Bridges of Acadia National Park...Mount Desert Island, MaineAcadia National Park, located principally on Mount Desert Island (MDI) in Maine, is a 35,000 acre national treasure consisting of mountains, lakes, ocean and forest. If you have not had the chance to visit, I strongly urge you to make it a vacation destination that you will never forget. During the turn of the century, MDI and its villages of Bar Harbor, Seal Harbor and Northeast Harbor, became the summer play land of the rich and famous, and included the Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, Fords, Morgans, Astors and Pulitzers. They built lavish "cottages," mansions really, of gigantic proportions, and acquired large tracts of land on the island. Their opulent summer lifestyles were far from that of the native fishermen and farmers....

When you hit the trails to hike, take a stroll along the Maine sea coast or up Mt Katahdin, one of our many mountains, you see some famous people. Like President Obama and his family. Many well known people vacation, retire, keep second homes in Maine. Why? To get away from the people. To be knee deep in rich scenery, wildlife and to enjoy clean air, no traffic, leaving city crime behind. Maine, big state, more elbow room. And you never know who you'll run in to on the trails, like the Ship Harbor Trail around Acadia National Park, in the Bar Harbor, MDI area along the Maine coast. Discover all there is about this neat place with the space. All natural, unfilter Maine.I'm Maine REALTOR Andrew Mooers, ME Broker

Maine vacations always something to look forward to but with your horse along for the ride so to speak? Sure thing, with a call ahead to Carriages of Acadia you could bring Trigger, Bullet, Lightning with you to see the 57 miles of roadways around Acadia National Park in Mount Desert Island Maine. A local Houlton Maine attorney talked at a recent Rotary Club meeting about his "other business". Michael Carpenter won a ten year contract award for the right to use ten horse drawn carriages. To promote Maine and help close to 20,000 tourists to see granite bridges, amazing Maine water and land views around Acadia National Park. Locally owned businesses, especially the ones tied to tourism and agriculture are near and dear to my heart growing up on a Northern Maine potato farm. And being a b...

All successful time management begins with planning. Use a weekly calendar and make a daily "To Do" list. Write down all of the things you want to accomplish today, including personal activities such as phone calls and shopping.  Use it to set daily priorities--what must be done today? What can wait? Write a new list each morning.  Time Management is more than just managing our time; it is managing ourselves.  It's having discipline, setting priorities and taking charge of your situation and time utilization. It means changing those habits or activities that cause us to waste time.  P. Stone, RRES

Up to admire the sunrise in Bar Harbor Maine, to get packed to head back to Houlton ME after this morning's MAR state real estate convention wraps up. Today the real estate update from the National Association of REALTORS, a super breakfast to get the Maine real estate agents, brokers ready for one more class. Linda Gifford is the Maine Association of REALTORS "legal beagle". Worth the price of admission alone forget the continuing education credits, the networking options when you live in Maine. She will outline new laws and what is in committee at the Maine legislature that affects the economy, the state real estate industry. She is a REALTOR, past real estate broker and MAR's "on retainer for life" attorney running our "legal hot line" for clarification, seasoned guidance. To avoid b...

The hurry scurry to get to an annual Maine real estate REALTORS convention meeting. Every year the same two step dosey doe getting the office set up for a few days at meetings. Cauterizing loose ends, remember to do this, this and this. Luckily I have had an assistant for nineteen years that is like Radar on the MASH television series. Robin just knows. Remind Andy to do this, don't forget to do that. And then that. With androids, laps tops it is a seamless transition. Sure, tethered by wireless devices while in a continuing education class. Cattle prodded to call these three numbers during the lunch break. And did I set up for the day back the showing on this place, the closing on that property? It's like any vacation where just before it things get intense and you smile. You're going ...

The crisp Maine fall air, the colors of foliage in the peak as REALTORS from around the state called "Vacationland" trek to Bar Harbor ME, Hancock County. This year's 2010 Maine State REALTOR's Convention will be educational, informative, fun too. The day long seminar with meetings for continuing education real estate licensing requirements all in a three day swoop are worth the price of admission alone. But the most education comes from the round table discussions at the lunches, dinners. Networking with agents around Maine, and comparing notes on what works, what does not. A lot like our Active Rain blog posts that get input from others in the same real estate trenches. Have you been to your state REALTORS meeting yet? Catching up with other Maine real estate practioners, agents, brok...

There's a little known part of Acadia National Park at the tip of Schoodic Peninsula.  With dramatic views and loop road of its own, around every corner is another piece of pristine coastline.  This is what National Parks are there for.  My wife and I often go there on an extremely hot day because the ocean breezes are like sticking your head in the refrigerator.  Come on now, I know we've all done that on a hot day.  Anyway, the one way two lane road is a pleasurable ride with ample opportunities to stopand take pictures or explore.  At the southern most extreme is a place where, when the wind and tide is right, the crashing surf must be approached with caution.  It's a sight worthwhile.     Thomas Dean Associate Broker Town & Country, Realtors 140 High Street Ellsworth, ME  04605 207-...

In the town of Surry, on the Blue Hill Peninsula, you can find a peaceful strip of land with views of Mount Desert Island across the Union River Bay to the east and East Blue Hill across Morgan Bay to the west.  Parking at Carrying Place Beach is a great place to start.  This dead end road affords dramatic  views right to the end.  A ride out there and back is only 10 miles, fairly level and traffic free.  By the way, real estate on this out of the way is highly sought after and sells at a premium.  Prices have not suffered in the current market. Even before moving to the Maine coast near Mount Desert Island, my wife and kids and I had already begun exploring the enchanting carriage Trails of Acadia National Park.  Even ten years after moving to the area and finding all the other great places to ride, we still return to the park regularly.  It's there for everyone to enjoy and we never tire of it.  See our photos below and check out the Park's own website

This is a hectic time in the market with the incentives being offered for first time homebuyers - and by hectic I mean there is a lot of confusion involved (more than the typical first time buyer transaction).  I have found it incredibly important right now that my first time buyer clients work with a mortgage broker or banker that can walk them through the different scenarios that work best for them.  I have dealt w/ some bankers right now who are not up to speed w/ the new incentives, and I'm sorry, in this market it is MOST important to be on the ball.   Experience, sensitivity and intelligence are the most important characteristics I tell my buyer clients while looking for bankers and mortgage brokers.

My wife and I went to a late July 4th gathering on Last Wednesday the 8th in a small community comprised of 19th century vacation cottages on the north end of Little Deer Isle offthe coast of Maine.  For me the best feature was the old lighthouse in the view, situated on Pumpkin Island.  The whole community was once only accessible by steamship and rail.  Now you can drive across the Deer Isle Bridge that crosses the Eggemoggin Reach.

When I moved to Maine 35 years ago, it was mostly as a result of the books written by Helen and Scott Nearing.  Since moving to the Mid Coast region a few years ago, I made the pilgrimage to the homestead that started it all in Brooksville, Maine.  Now maintained by young and energetic stewards, this place is a shrine to the folks who inspired the "Back to the Land" movement of the '70s. If you are in the  area, you must make a visit. Visit http://www.goodlife.org/ Visiting on July 4th, 2009 Orr Cove - across the road

Ever have one of those days where no matter what you do it comes out wrong? No matter what you do you can't get warm?I know we all have those days and I know that tomorrow will be better. It always is...but in the meantime I do what I usually do... to find comfort.I look through my picture folder and relive those memories. And tonight I found a little video clip that I shot during our vacation in Bar Harbor Maine last August. We vacation in Bar Harbor every August and stay at the same campground on the same camp site at the waters edge. Our site sits on Western Bay and we are protected by a dotting of islands that buffer us from the open ocean. We camp with a group of good friends and it is something that I really look forward to every year. I'm counting the days till we go again!Tonight...

If you seek the quintessential Maine coast experience, this area of Maine - from Stonington and Castine, through Blue Hill, Acadia and Bar Harbor, Ellsworth, and on up the coast and inland to Schoodic Point, Cherryfield, Milbridge, and Columbia Falls - offers visitors and locals alike everything one could ask for in a Maine coastal experience.Acadia Park, Bar Harbor, and Mount Desert Island are known all over the world for their scenic beauty and history. The Blue Hill area and south to Deer Isle and Stonington are pure coastal Maine - a spare population, busy, working harbors, lobster traps, chugging boats, and the cries of the seagulls overhead. For many, this is what Maine is all about and what has drawn people to this area since Samuel de Champlain first gazed on Cadillac Mountain 5...

Spring time in Maine...... 'gotta love it'! It's time to 'dig out from under'! (winter photo:GramE's camp on Long Pond)Mud Season is fast approaching. I wonder where Bob put our LLBean Waders ??.A local reminded me the other day that we usually have 2 seasons in Maine: Winter and Construction. This year in Acadia National Park, we had 3 seasons: ..Summer season, Flu season and Mud season. Most of us are now on the mend , and ready to put on our waders ...It's time for the tourists to arrive !Just a reminder: When you are in the Bar Harbor area, stop by the Somesville Carriage House to visit. If GramEpat's car is in the yard, the welcome mat is always out! Hope to see you soon.
