The Houlton Maine Rotary Club has always been a civic service club that made the quality of life in the Southern Aroostook County so much brighter. Usually the long list of financial contributions have been to youth oriented causes. From new lighting, sound equipment at local school systems, to building a Houlton Maine outdoor musical amphitheatre, the new local little league base ball field complex. Past year donations to Houlton Maine Regional Hospital's blood gas analyzers, mammography units and capital improvement campaigns have benefited all in Northern Maine. This year's Rotary Radio, TV, Cable Auction has part of the fund raising efforts earmarked for the Northern Maine Soap Box Derby Hilltop "Garage" project. The Houlton Maine Rotary Club has been behind the derby program since ...

Voyeurs, eavesdropping on conversations, letters can be fun and not like being within earshot of a public cell phone call that you can not get away from, don't want to be a party to. Here is a recent email I received this morning from a lady who is happy to own property in Houlton Maine. Glad for our Maine health care, hospitals too. Andy,Thank you again for all the good info on Houlton Maine -- and all accurate  by the way. My car insurance is one-half cost in FL, and electric bill  surprisingly low even with drier and dishwasher going a lot.  People  have been wonderful. Before I moved here someone I met in Houlton told  me I was just looking at area with rose-colored glasses, but I've not  found that the case. I love the area, the community, and home. And  find the info on your blog ...

The home where you formed warm childhood memories in, in Maine, where ever on the planet, how is it looking today? Is it still standing? Does it have a total new look, addition after addition added to it? Or is it gone, torn down to make room for parking for the place next door that is used for commercial, business real estate purpose? Or did the place get lost in a fire, burned or flooded out if you live near a river or happened to be in New Orleans a few years back when high tides, flooding happened? If you live in the town where you grew up, but not in the family home, when you drive by what happens? Can't bring yourself to look or avoid the neighborhood because it looks like a crack house? Derelict, rundown, not the place you hold warmly, fondly in your heart? Or do you live there a...

Moonlighting, second, third, extra jobs and more than 40 hour weeks to get the word out, promotion work done about living in Maine. Creating the image of just what exactly from a local Maine villager's perspective it feels like living in the right hand corner of the country is a full time job in itself. Ccomplimenting my Maine real estate career done during the daylight hours, means feeding Flickr, Youtube, Wordpress blog platforms. Because blogging should not be a solo act center stage, always alone in the spotlight. But rather a blending process, mixing in of other "instruments", "colors", "smells", "sounds" and "sights" or glimpses of what  it means to live, work, play, raise a family in your particular, unique GPS home coordinates. Do you stir in using media tools the local communit...

My Sunday afternoon date I have known since knee high to a grasshopper. She's good with kids. The divine Miss M.She's a worker, has all the "attachments" and knows how to use them.Likes the outdoors, not race horse sleek and beautiful but industrious.Dependable.You can work with this gal and the lady rarely complains, whines.Might gasp, cough, wheeze, whirl or stall but usually my own fault. I'll admit my mistakes in the relationship. But a minor adjustment brings her back to life, back on task. This is the "cougar" I am some kind of fond of, spend time with on a Maine farm. Born in 1953, older than me but that age difference does not seem to interfere with our relationship. She has been a back bone partner to farm chores, operations with planting, cultivating, hoeing, harvesting crops. ...

The food you eat, when available at a local Maine farmers market is more than good nutrition. When you buy corn, potatoes, fresh peas, strawberries or any other native grown vegetables and fruits, you get the freshest right from the field produce. Bought from a local vendor, farmer, grower helping support the local producer while socializing a bit in that open air Maine farmer's market. Since the beginning of time, consider how agrarian our society initially was, and may be reverting, making a big swing to in a big way again for health, economic and other reasons. I grew up on this Houlton Maine farm that produced vegetables, planted, picked, harvested from the fields. The fruit like strawberries  carefully planted in fields plowed under with organic material worked in.  Strawberries ha...

In marketing real estate in Maine, the ability to see, cater to the different market segments, niche audiences within the audience for your product is essential. Gone are the days of advertising without thought to the all the individuals, each and every demographic represented within that audience. At fourteen I had an FCC 3rd class license with broadcast endorsement and worked at a small Houlton Maine radio station, WHOU which was owned by Howdy Doody. The well known 1950's children's early television broadcast pioneer owned three Maine AM radio stations, the other two in Calais and Millinocket Maine. On Saturday's shift, the afternoon music radio broadcast was top forty, middle of the road as you ripped and read news off the AP teletype, took song record requests. Helped find lost dog...

The little things, events that happen in a real estate day to day you have no control over but that reflect on you and can make your buyer, seller not so happy, apt to jump up and down with your performance. I'm talking about the situations where a buyer and seller is not smiling and the spotlight, focus comes back on you. When an real estate agent, broker, REALTOR does mess up, that is one thing. Quickly see the error of your ways, or how you dropped the ball and crank up the attention to detail times ten on a performance less than your property listing, marketing, selling standard. But sometimes you get a call from an owner of property who is out of town, moved and when they happen to return to pick up a few more personal items in their relocation down country, it happens. They roll i...

The weather in Houlton Maine could not have been any more picture perfect for the 15th annual Northern ME Soap Box Derby Race. Downhill kit car gravity racers in two divisions, stock and super stock enjoyed plenty of sunshine, a slight breeze. As heat by heat, down thru the race brackets a final set of local youth were selected to head west to Ohio. Representing the state of Maine this year in the race in July in Akron will be in the stock division Olivia White and in super stock Sarah Bouchard, both from the town of Houlton ME.  Working on the video edit and will post soon but in the meantime, some photos of the event that went smoothly. Thanks to the lots of race volunteers, an engineered derby hill,  and a great bunch of kids from as far away as Brunswick, Bangor, etc. The bulk of th...

Since 1983 I have sponsored the Mooers Realty little league team and enjoyed years of fun with my own four kids going up thru the ranks and now hoot, holler for other Maine local community baseball players. There is something about having a busy real estate day in Maine and then throwing on shorts, a t-shirt and grabbing your glove to help the team. Tonight after setting up for the Northern Maine Soap Box Derby track and this weekends race, was able to hit a championship game of the Mooers Realty little league team.   All the kids have personalities, skills, fun and humor that make the team each year unique, special. Little league sunset and weekend games in small towns thru out Maine are just one summer past time. In Houlton Maine besides setting up the soap box derby track, and taking...

Paddy Holler is an area of Houlton Maine located at the base of Drakes Hill on Military Street, which is technically US Rt 2, the old way to the Canadian border. Nicknamed because lots of Irish potato farmers heading over to Aroostook County Maine, hanging out in New Brunswick Canada for a spell before crossing over the Houlton Maine border. On the Front Ridge Road in Littleton ME there was a place called "The Burdock". Another haunt frequented by the Irish farming families that landed here after leaving the Great Ireland Potato Famine quite a few years before the Maine real estate broker was born. The Burdock I learned from a fellow who had built a Maine home where it used to be was a make shift social meeting place with a piano. There was rumored to be some consumption of what was ref...

You are down country from Maine, out of state wanting a bunch of cheap land, a small or one big acreage of property of your own. When you Google it, do the search as a buyer, a mild mannered, run of the mill real estate searcher, surfer is not going to pull any punches. The search term for "cheap maine real estate" is more likely to be the words hunt and pecked, hammered out to tap in to the supply of property, the acreages plentiful in Maine. Aroostook County especially with eleven people per square mile is loaded with land.Big pieces of Maine land, with special owner financing to avoid the bank over head charges, the higher rates of interest. So as a Maine real estate broker, it took a few years to weave in to the property information, especially the blog title headline the word "cheap"....

Hero the cat used to live at an Amity Maine home, house I listed, sold a year ago with the property owners heading to Florida but not able to take along the four legged furry pet. Hero followed me around as I shot images, put together video loops for his old home in Aroostook County. My kids had adopted a gray tiger kitten from the local animal shelter in Houlton Maine a few years before. Because Hero was friendly, seemed to have a unique personality, I brought him home to see how he got along with the other cat. The connection between cats went well. But a few months later, my neighbor used to ask me about Steve..a cat they had been feeding, that wandered over from time to time. They did not know Hero was my cat. In the beginning he did not go out often. So I learned I had a double a...

You see the Maine real estate sign go up, in time the weeds shooting skyward around the home and when it does not sell, other brokers, real estate sellers blame it on the market. Bob, the price is wrong. In the best of markets the property is way way over priced. Heads and heels above the rest of the real estate herd of property listings. Priced, warehoused in the nose bleed section of the auditorium, civic center, local area it is parked in, affected by. In Maine, our prices do not spike or tumble. We mosey along because they are always pretty realistic, low cost compared to the rest of the world.      Far less zero places and I joke to New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island buyers to divide by three and four everything they know about property values where they live no...

Maine homes, oh sure we have those in the real estate inventory in all sizes, prices, locations but also list, sell farms, land, waterfront and even small business ME properties. Our real estate in Maine that we sell is not just one flavor of properties, more than just homes for sale in Maine. Sometimes its homes with land in Maine, lots of property surrounding the houses we list, market, sell.      A farm in Maine might mean five acres or 2000 acres surrounding it. With open land, wooded acreage Maine offers low cost properties..just dig out your calculator and do the math. Imagine 200 acres on water, a river, stream in Masardis Maine in the $90's. Or 197 acres in Crystal Maine in the $70's price range.      So when you think Mooers Realty in Houlton Maine, please please don't just thi...
