Mt. Airy Market Report Only two properties sold in Mt. Airy during the past month. Both sold in the $300's and had 4 bedrooms and 2 to 2.5 baths. Both gave seller concessions: $9,600 and $5,000, respectively. One property was on 2.2 acres and the other was a little under one acre. The exact prices (sold) were $320,000 and $385,000. The second property had a lot of upgrades, such as a newer kitchen and beautifully landscaped back yard. Several factors may account for the slower market during the last month, including holidays and inclement weather.

Mount Airy MD Trustee Sales - Harvey West Auctioneers Harvey West Auctioneers has scheduled Maryland trustee sales. Trustee sales auctions are open to the public and all qualified bidders. These sales are foreclosures by the secured mortgage lenders. Most of the bidders use cashier's checks that are payable to themselves and endorse the checks when they are successful. Always check for cancellations before attending trustee sales. How would you like to live in one of the top 100 cities in the U.S.?  If you read the most recent issue of Money magazine, you already know that Mt. Airy is one of those cities.  I knew the city I lived in was great, but I had no idea it was that great.  Pre-selection critieria included size and multi-ethnicity, but other criteria focused on safety, job opportunities, education, sense of community.  The article was based party on research and partly on interviews of the city's inhabitants.  I always knew that I appreciated the beautiful countryside, light traffic, variety of interesting things to do, and the relatively low cost of living in Mt. Airy, but evidently there are more aspects of Mt. Airy to appreciate than I even realized.  I have previously blogged on Concetta's Italian Groc...

Mt. Airy Farmers Market My real estate partner and I had an enjoyable time last Wednesday at the Farmer's Market in Mt. Airy held at the Municipal Parking Lot in downtown Mt. Airy. The afternoon included entertainment furnished by Ed Caballero who also owns and runs the Vintage Coffee Shop. Ed and his partner sang and played acoustic instruments to the delight of the spellbound customers. It was hard to choose between the fresh fruits and vegetables and the delectable homemade baked goods. The local high school also displayed tomatoes and other vegetables that were ready to be planted in your own garden. Run by volunteers from Mount Airy Main Street Association, the Farmer's Market, which occurs every Wednesday from 3:30 to 6:30 should be put on your calendar as a regular event. It is a...

Vintage Coffee Shop--Mt. Airy The Vintage Coffee Shop in old town Mt. Airy is an amazing place.  As the name suggests, you can get any type of coffee you desire, whether your little heart desires a hearty cup of regular grind or the more exotic blended varieties.  If you own a laptop, the WIFI is free, unlike Starbucks, and you can relax in a separate lounge, complete with leather furniture and an oversized checkers game that comes with its own hand-woven mat.  Breakfast sandwiches are available along with an excellent homemade cinnamon bun with a generous portion of icing.  (Watch out!  These are a bit habit forming.) The owner has been known to entertain  on occasion for those lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time.  His name is Ed Caballero, and he tells me he has be...

Childcare in Mt. Airy If you are looking for childcare in Mt.  Airy or Monrovia, look no farther.  The Children's Center can provide for all of your childcare needs, whether you have an infant 8 weeks  of age or a fifth grader.  The preschool program is very comprehensive, including activities ranging from informal sharing to hands-on science, supervised by a certified science teacher.  Before and after school  care are also provided. The attractive grounds are very inviting with various kinds of colorful, geometric play equipment, and the staff is selected for "their warm, caring personalities and love of children" as well as their credentials.  When I went for my personal interview with them, I found them to be very cordial and relaxed.  The sign in front of the center says that they ...

Concetta's Deli in Mt. Airy, Maryland Among my more satisfying finds in Mt. Airy is Concetta's Italian Deli. Everything is made fresh daily, even the bread and they use local produce and meats as much as possible.  The results are incredible. They make a meatball sub that is to die for.  Anytime I am in the vicinity, I can't resist getting one. They roast the meatballs in the oven and then make this delectable tomato sauce.  You might want to try one of their authentic Italian drinks such as the fizzy orange or lemon, made with real fruit juice.  Their desserts are also very tempting.  Try the cannoli or homemade cookies.  Concetta's is located on Main Street in Mt. Airy.  One can eat in or carry out.  The décor is simple but cheerful; tomato cans filled with bright flowers adorn the ta...
