Lutherville Community Association Luminaries During the holiday season Lutherville has always had luminaries.  This year the lighting of the luminaries has been moved to a new date - Sunday, December 18th.  Although many people associate the luminaries with holiday lighting of candles placed in small, brown bags filled with sand, luminaries first appeared around the 16th century, as a Spanish tradition of lighting bonfires along the roads and churchyards to guide people to Midnight Mass on the final night of the celebration of Las Posadas. The night of Las Posadas (Spanish word meaning lodging or inn) is a traditional, festive celebration that was first introduced to the native people of Mexico by European missionaries, and is the reenactment of the story of Mary and Joseph's search for...

Santa Claus Came to Lutherville, MD This Morning Parts of Lutherville, MD were blessed this morning with an early visit from Santa.  The volunteer firemen at the Lutherville Volunteer Fire Station escorted Santa around the streets of Lutherville in their fire truck this morning.  With sirens blaring and horns blazing they drove through the streets delivering candy canes to kids who braved the cold to wait by their homes to catch a glimpse of the leaner version of Santa.  Thanks to the Lutherville Community Association and the Lutherville Volunteer Fire Station for organizing the annual visit of Santa to boys and girls of all ages so they could get their last minute wishes in before Christmas arrives.  Even my 13 year old son, Liam braved the cold this morning to stand at the end of our ...

Santa Claus is Coming to Lutherville, MD The first year we lived in Lutherville my son, Liam was so excited to see Santa riding down our street on the back of an old fashioned fire truck. And every year he looks forward to this event, even though he's now 13 he still believes that Santa still lives on as the spirit of Christmas. Every year Santa Claus makes his rounds in Lutherville with the help of the Lutherville Volunteer Fire Department. Beginning at 10:00 a.m. on December 17, 2011, Santa and the Lutherville Volunteer Fire Department will be visiting the Lutherville Community Association area. Make sure you are home to catch Santa’s travels throughout Lutherville in his old fashioned fire truck!

Bedecked and Beadazzled in Lutherville, MD For those of you who didn't know, I love all things creative.  Back in the day when I used to teach quilting, needlework, knitting, crocheting etc... I used to tell this joke.  My Grandma Hart taught me to do all kinds of needlework.  She taught me to embroider, knit, crochet fancy doilies for my trousseau, sew and so on.  She always told me that in order to be a good catch I had to be schooled in the needlearts.  I must have been a good catch cause I'm on number 3!!  I believe in catch and release!!  Third times the charm!!  Anyway, I absolutely love all things to do with needles and threads.  I'm an avid quilter but enjoy embroidery, cross stitch and needlepoint too.  Bedecked and Beadazzled opened in my neighborhood a while ago and I have be...

This week was the oddest week my family has endured in a long time. It began with me heading to the Patient First in Lutherville (a local immediate care facility) on Sunday, and finding out I have a sinus infection, therefore missing my 13th Baltimore Ravens home game since 1996. Wednesday, my parents arrived in town for Thanksgiving, and my mother promptly fell and broke her arm on my driveway. Back to the Patient First, this time a much more dramatic trip, as her wrist was broken in two places. Thursday, we had 30 guests at our home for Thanksgiving, and the night began with my husband cutting off part of his finger, and yes, the third trip of the week to the Patient First. Friday had us with an extremely long wait at the orthopedist for them to ensure the wrist did not need repositio...

Were you a boy scout?  Or a girl scout when you were a kid?  I was a girl scout and loved it, I loved the activities, the games, the crafts, the trips, the camping trips and all the cool stuff I learned.  The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness. For nearly a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes - and, through nearly a century of experience, knows - that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, respon...
