Owls of Maryland Most people only hear owls, but some folks are lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a large owl swooping across the road after dark. Most owls in Maryland are secretive and active at dusk and dawn or at night.Eighteen species of owls can be found in North America, eight of which occur in Maryland. Barred Owls, Barn Owls, Eastern Screech-Owls and Great-Horned Owls are commonly found throughout Maryland. Northern Saw-Whet Owls migrate through the State in late fall and a few occasionally breed in western Maryland in the summer. WSSC Engineering Scholarship Program The 2024 WSSC Water Commissioners’ Engineering Scholarship application is now available. Winners receive $2,000 per year and up to $8,000 over four consecutive years. 60,000 Free Computers to be Distributed “Montgomery Connects,” Montgomery County’s digital equity and inclusion program, has launched a new program to distribute 60,000 free laptop computers to low-income families. There is a limit of one computer per resident.
