Early Blooming Expected for DC Cherry BlossomsWith a mild winter winding down in the Washington, D.C., region, the National Park Service said fans of D.C.'s famed Yoshino cherry blossoms will reach peak bloom early this year.On Thursday, the Park Service said to expect full blooms from March 23 to March 26.On Tuesday, The Capital Weather Gang at the Washington Post said this winter's abnormally mild weather will likely cause the cherry blossoms at the Tidal Basin to reach peak bloom between March 19 and 23 — about 10 days earlier than normal and one of the earliest peak blooms on record.Click here to learn more.

Wheaton Arts Parade Poster Contest  Open to All Montgomery County Residents Calling all artists! Wheaton Arts Parade (WAP) is looking for some creative ideas for this year's poster to help spread the word about the fall event. Anyone who lives in Montgomery County is encouraged to submit their original designs that celebrate the arts, Montgomery County's diverse cultures and communicates the fun-filled spirit of the parade and art festival.The creator of the winning design will receive a $500 commission and get to select a Montgomery County school to receive $100 for art supplies.Designs must be original and may not include images that are copyrighted by anyone other than the applicant. Be Wary of Impersonation Scams Montgomery County’s Office of Consumer Protection (OCP) is out with a new warning about impersonation scams after the Federal Trade Commission reported an increase in these crimes over the last year. Impersonation scams involve phone calls or messages from individuals posing as representatives of legitimate businesses or organizations with the intention of obtaining personal information or money through deceptive tactics.Phone scammers often use "spoofing" to make it look like their calls or messages are coming from well-known organizations such as banks, the IRS or tech support companies. Read Across America Week, March 2-6 Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) is partnering with the Jewish Council for the Aging Heyman Interages Center (JCA), or Interages, to celebrate “Read Across America Week” with a reading program to take place at three MCPL branches. The celebration will take place Saturday, March 2 through Wednesday, March 6.The one-on-one reading program will pair JCA volunteers with children in kindergarten through third grade. Easy Shopping at ABS Alcohol Beverage ServicesOur local Montgomery County Liquor & Wine store is located nearby at 12155 Darnestown Road, Gaithersburg, Maryland 20878. I am on the email list for the ABS Alcohol Beverage Services website and noticed that they were having a sale on Black Box wines. We needed a new bottle of Cafe Lolita Coffee Liqueur and I made my list for the wine selections to pick up. This is a great store for wine and liquor shopping.
