Why use a Real Estate Agent in Worcester County Massachusetts?   Before you decide to become a FSBO ( for sale by owner), consider the extra time and money involved. Remember, Real Estate Agents perform many tasks, the scope of which you may not realize and all of which you would have to complete solo if you sold on your own. Some you actually do not have the ability to do at all. Tasks that real estate agents may do for sellers include:    •Creating a comparative market analysis of homes in your area to determine the correct pricing for your home compared with the competition. •Uploading your home's information into the Multiple Listing Service, a database of homes on the market that can only be accessed by licensed real estate professionals. •Coordinating all the necessary paperwork f...

If you are in the mood for a hotdog, this is the first place that should come to mind! George's Coney Island on 158 Southbridge Street is a Worcester staple. Voted in Worcester Magazine as one of the best places that men like to eat and also as the best hot dog place in Worcester, this long time family-owned business is thriving. Founded in 1918, it has remained in its landmark location. In 1927, George Tsagarelis purchased the famous hot dog business and 11 years later, expanded it to include wooden booths, an art deco design, formica countertops and a tile floor. These main features remain inside today. My parents had their first date there in the late 1950s and engraved their initials on one of the booths. Two hotdogs, soda pop and a bag of chips cost only a dollar back then! You c...

365 things to do in Worcester County - play scrabble or become a scrabble widow.  Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I have officially become a scrabble widow.  If you are looking for me, I am at home writing blogs, while my husband and his scrabble friends are playing scrabble at a local hangout, jumping juice and java on Chandler St.  Tuesday night is scrabble night and this game is not for the living room champion.  Or may be it is.  These guys take this game seriously.  No, there is no betting involved, at least not that I know of J.  But the game is timed and played on a regulation board with regulation tiles and specific rules. Playing Scrabble has been around for many, many years and the game has become not only the national passtime, but also a competitive sport.  Watch out, some of the...

365 things to do in Worcester county - See your dentist.  Anyone who's had issues with their teeth will tell you how important it is to see your dentist on a regular bases.  The professional who looks into your mouth and evaluates, cleans and takes care of those pearly whites can become invaluable.  My friend and past client, Brandon Cairo is a dentist and I "took it to the street" to find out why it is important to have regular dental visits.  My investigation found some very interesting facts, like, did you know that there is no Fluoride added to the Worcester water.  Kids need fluoride for continued good dental health.  Be aware also, that if you are a family of bottled water drinkers, as we often are, that you too are not getting the fluoride you need. Brandon gave me a brief tour o...

After a week long of dieting and not cheating, my husband and I were craving a pizza and heard that The Corner Grille on 806 Pleasant Street, Worcester had some awesome pizza pies. We had gone on a 2-1/2 hour bike ride that morning and thought we earned it, so we ordered a 14" Veggaholic Pie. The pizza pie consisted of mushrooms, zucchini, eggplant, tomatoes, spinach, green peppers with some ricotta and mozzarella cheese. I think our mouths were watering just ordering it! We also split a Fatoush salad which consisted of romaine lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, olives, feta cheese, pita chips with lemon mint dressing. Established in 1998, The Corner Grille is opened daily for lunch and dinner.  Living in Worcester for the past 6 years, this was our first try at one of Worcester's f...

I just received this notice in my email: 22 Union drivers of the ATU, Local 22 called in sick today leaving passengers who ride the WRTA stranded. The WRTA is doing everything possible, within legal means to get the service restored as quickly as possible. I guess they're fighting over health insurance, which I'm sure they have valid issues if they are willing to call in sick over it. It sounds like the bus company is calling in scabs to drive. I'm not siding with the bus company - but people depend on the bus to get to their jobs. Think about who takes a city bus to work - people who can't afford a car most likely can't afford a cab or a day off from their jobs. Yeah, a strike will hit the bus company where it hurts but it hits a lot of innocent people where it hurts also.

To end our perfect weekend of biking, camping and canoeing, my husband and I decided to treat ourselves to a lovely dinner at the Via Italian Table. The Via Italian Table is a one of Worcester's most popular restaurants and we thought we'd take advantage of the Restaurant Week as well. The Via Italian Table, along with 47 other Worcester restaurants have lunch and dinner specials for only $22.10 a person. We started off with a melon and proscuitto appetizer, then shared an asparagus, walnut and goat cheese salad. Both were served cool and even better, light on the calories. Our main entree was a chicken caesar salad pizza and I was skeptical of having lettuce and tomato for a pizza topping, but it was so YUMMY! The Via Italian Table is known mainly for its' italian flare but sure to pl...

One of the draws to living in Worcester is it's colleges and universities. There used to be a billboard by the Shrewsbury St exit of 290-E that listed 10. It's not there now, but the colleges still are. Having so many colleges in such a small area means that you may find people from age 16-76 in class next to you!Quinsigamond Community College offers many pathways into four-year colleges and universities. For instance, with a 3.0 GPA and an Associates Degree from QCC, you are guaranteed admission to Massachusetts State Colleges along with a 1/3 reduction off of in-state tuition. A graduate with a 3.7 GPA is eligible for a $10,000 Presidential Scholarship at Clark University. Another reason to choose Worcester when buying a home - Clark University offers FREE TUITION to residents who mee...

365 things to do in Worcester county -Enjoy Art at Elm Park Worcester.  Yes people, Worcester does have culture.  Worcester does have style.  Right now if you go to Elm Park in Worcester, you will enjoy unique outside exhibit of local area artists. Admission is free and all ages are welcome.  You can even bring your dog to enjoy this attraction, just don't forget your poop-er scooper.  There is a playground your kids will love.  Not only is there art at Elm Park, but the bridges and lush vegetation will take you out of the city and transfer you to a country estate. I did not have an opportunity to speak to any official representative as, you know, I like to do, but was able to capture some of the "magic" of a warm summer day in Elm Park Worcester.  The swans and geese on the pond are al...

365 things to do in Worcester county- jumpin' juice and java in Worcester is a local eatery with a modern flair yet a hommy feeling.  This is a great hang out or a pop in for lunch.  It's a nice place to meet friends or check out "365 things to do in Worcester County" blog on free Internet access. Located in the old Tatnuck Book seller's location at 335 Chandler St., in Worcester, it is a modern facility with flat screen TV and a stone fireplace in the corner.  The decor is unobtrusive and the artwork is cutesy.  The food is very fresh and the coffee is innovative.  I enjoyed a Santa Fe sandwich the other day as a wrap and it was awesome! Today I spoke to Joshua Van Dyke who is the proprietor.  He welcomed me like an old freind and we chatted a bit about his cafe and the other Jumpin' J...

Well today, I thought I'd pamper myself and get a new hairstyle since my weight loss. My daughter, Alyssa has been going to Tu Moda Spa and Salon on 574 Pleasant Street in Worcester and told me that her hairstylist, Ani does a wonderful job and that the place is very welcoming. So I thought I would give it a try and take her advice! There is a beautiful perennial gardens with a water fountain sure to set your mood as you enter the front door. Aveda skin care products, jewelry, clothing, handbags and cards are located in the front so you can shop while you wait! I was greeted by a young woman who asked my name and offered me something to drink then directed into a waiting room down a short hallway. I didn't wait in there that long as Ani called my name and sat down to discuss what I was ...
