Posted 09/10/08 by bostonkayakguy It may not be lipstick on a pig, but it sure is red, it's bleeding heavily, and it's one of the most outrageous displays of corporate and individual "piggy" behavior! What is it? Freddie Mac... Richard Syron, former South Natick resident, joined Freddie Mac in 2003.  This week’s developments in the mortgage titan’s business operations means that Freddie Mac’s CEO will now be added to the running tally of monthly job losses. According to a report published in today’s Boston Globe Syron’s departure from Freddie Mac may be accompanied by a severance package reportedly in the vicinity of $6.3 million, although an article in the NY Times states Syron’s payout could be at least $14.1 million.     *Photo courtesy of BusinessWeek.com Syron’s severance package i...

Posted on September 5, 2008 by bostonkayakguy |  While much of Wellesley spent the last few months at the beach, or on mountaintops as the case may be, those individuals charged with the building of the new high school were hard at work. Posted on September 2, 2008 by bostonkayakguy |   The competition rages on between Wellesley and Needham. Who’s greener? While town officials continue the debate, the high school students have been making their own inroads. With school opening this week, this terrific video produced by Wellesley High students puts the “green theme” front and center. “The Wellesley High School Green Team wanted to promote the “reduce, reuse, recycle” message by showing this video to students. Thanks to Jeremy, Ann and Jacob for working on the video!” [youtube=http://youtube.com/watch?v=ivzn4jw_baY]         More Information: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivzn4jw_bay   JOHN PRESCOTT -BostonKayakGuy   Call John Prescott 508-523-9252 regarding your professional real estate services.    Top Real Estate Agent...

Numbers don't lie. Or do they?       Long time rivals Needham and Wellesley's latest skirmish isn't on the playing fields; rather it's taking place at the dump.  Or actually the transfer station where town recycling takes place.   Numbers released for 2006 indicate that 69% of Needham residents recycle, compared to 49% of Wellesley townspeople.         But Wellesley officials take issue with this, since all communities "self report."   And as such, these reported numbers are subject to interpretation...   * Courtesy Boston Globe, Lisa Keen   More information: Boston Globe:   http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2008/08/31/talking_trash/ Wellesley Recycling: http://wellesleyma.virtualtownhall.net/Pages/WellesleyMA_DPW/rdf/recyclingposter.pdf http://wellesleyma.virtualtownhall.net/P...

Posted on August 30, 2008 by bostonkayakguy | Edit Wellesley College While now might be a good time for Wellesley College to enlist the services of the BBC hit show “Cash in the Attic,” the show that helps you find hidden treasures in the attic, or the museum as they case may be, it appears that the Davis Museum is making adjustments to its policies and procedures to “enhance controls regarding museum operations on a defined timeline.” Wellesley College President H. Kim Bottomly asserts that Wellesley has taken strong measures to prevent a situation similar to that involving a Fernand Leger painting which was revealed recently to have “gone missing,” from ever happening again. The investigation continues into determining what exactly happened to the priceless painting which may have bee...

First they threw out the tea. Then they threw out… Posted on August 28, 2008 by bostonkayakguy | Edit First they threw out the tea. Then they threw out the clothes. ( see “Ask Me Why I’m Naked post) Then it seems, they threw out the multimillion dollar painting! ! That’s right…the powers that be at Wellesley College have discovered that a Leger painting valued in the vicinity of $2.8 million has gone missing! Seems it’s possible it was thrown out with the trash !!! There will be a number of concerned Wellesley College art donors (of which I happen to be one,) who may be getting ready to pick up the phone, but the investigation is just beginning.  So …proceed with caution.  Let’s see what happened. Cashing In…Homes With Benefits Posted on August 22, 2008 by bostonkayakguy | Edit And just when you think you’ve seen it all…you realize you haven’t! A single, 42 year old mother of 2 in Palm Beach Gardens has penned a unique way to market her home.  Buy the house; receive a “princess bride!” That’s right; the sale of this home apparently comes with benefits. Your very own Barbie replica who’s been looking for Mr. Right and saw a unique opportunity to search for her Prince Charming and market/sell her home. She’s posted ads on ebay (since taken down,) and craigslist, as well as her own blog.  She’s been interviewed by foreign press, TV entertainment shows, and (according to her) been approached by Lifetime and our very own Dr. PHIL ! Oh that’s right…she says she’s signed to do a Dr. Phi...

Tuesday, September 2, 2008 2 weeks……2 weeks…………2 weeks…….2 weeks………. UNTIL THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL !! Have you heard it?  The clock is ticking! Exactly 2 weeks from Tuesday, you’ll hear even more.   There will be the frantic search; cabinets and cupboards being opened and closed.  Drawers closed in frustration.  Doors slammed.   Clothes will be taken from the closet.  Some will land on the floor.  Missing shoes will be retrieved.   Breakfast will remain untouched in some instances.  Hairdryers will be humming.  iPods will be removed from the bedroom, family room, car, …and other sundry places.   Running feet will be heard…out the front door.  Car doors will be slammed; buses will be waiting. Moms and Dads will start their engines.  And they’ll all be headed to the biggest gathering of ...

The debate has been raging for some time here in Wellesley, along with other Massachusetts towns: “Does the most money equal the best education?”   The other side to this question is: “How much control should individual towns, some being wealthier than others, have over replacing outdated, outmoded school facilities?”   WELLESLEY HIGH SCHOOL   As we all know, Wellesley is currently embroiled in this very debate with the state.  As a graduate of Wellesley High School I can attest that the need for state of the art facilities is clear.  The students of Wellesley have been waiting a long time for a high school that incorporates design and technology needed to ensure that Wellesley keeps pace with other educational institutions.   Students in Natick have been attending a high school which ...

Bon Appetit! Was Julia Child Sending A Secret Code? Papers to be released on Thursday indicate that Julia Child, the indomitable PBS hostess from Cambridge Ma, had more cooking in her pot than just chicken! Documents indicate that Chef Julia was an early operative during WW II, for the office that later became known as the CIA.  Child was a beloved former resident of Cambridge and was world renowned for her culinary talents.  Apparently this Massachusetts resident knew more than how to skin a chicken!  Yes indeed, our dear Julia was in fact. . . a spy!! Long known as a role model for Martha Stewart, it seems that the cooking icon may have been more like the forerunner for Angelina Jolie's character from "Mr. & Mrs. Smith!"       http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/International-spy-ring-revea...
