Quincy Point is the area of Quincy bordering Weymouth.Quincy Point was home to the shipyard and was a very active yard during World War II. The shipyard opned in 1885 and closed in the late 1980's. During Worls War II, the shipyard built more ships than any shipyard in the Country. The shipyard at that time was owned By Bethlehem Steel Corp. wholater sold it to General Dynamics.Early on the Fore River Engine Company, which was the start of the shipyard, was owned by Thomas Watson, who is known as the co-inventor of the telephone with Alexander Graham Bell.The Shipyard was also where the popular phrase "Kilroy Was Here" began.    Houghs Neck is a sea side community, and peninsular within the City of Quincy.Houghs Neck was originally a cottage community and was the old Cape before the highway (route 3) was built to take us to what we now know as Cape Cod. People came from all over to summer in Houghs Neck.The area used to be lined with boat rental yards because of the excellent fishing in the area. In fact, Houghs Neck at one time was known as the Flounder Fishing capital of the world. I recall going fishing with my dad as a child. We would rent a boat at Harvey's Boat Yard and within 3 hours have 2 five gallon buckets full of flounder. West Quincy is bordered on one side by Braintree, and the other by Milton.Quarrying began in West Quincy back in the 1800's. Many of Quincy's older homes have granite block foundations that actually came from the Quincy Quarries. Many imigrants came to the area to work at the quarries from Germany, Italy, Ireland, Finland, etc. and stayed in the community making it home. Finnish Steam Baths used to line Copeland Street, but today only one remains.   PMI BECOMES DEDUCTIBLE IN 2007A new tax change that makes private mortgage insurance deductible may help some low- and moderate-income buyers purchase homes this year. Borrowers closing loans for home purchases in 2007, who have annual household incomes of $100,000 or less, will be able to get a low down payment mortgage and deduct the full cost of their mortgage insurance premiums on their federal tax returns. The deduction is set to expire at the end of 2007, unless Congress opts to extend it.

These statistics are determined by the FBI crime figures throughout the country.
