Autumn Adventure in Amherst, MA Summit of Mt. Norwottuck New England gleams in autumn, and this past weekend some friends and I spent the day in Amherst, MA. We first took a hike up Mt. Nortwottuck, a mountain located in the Mt. Holyoke Range.  We started at the Notch Visitors Center and took a 3.5 mile loop on the Robert Frost and Metacomt-Mattabessett trails, a moderate hike with elevation of about 1000 feet - not too strenuous.   Horse Caves This route took us through a glorious rock overhang called Horse Caves, where we squeezed through this notch on the way to the summit.Once at the top of Mt. Norwottuck, we spent time daydreaming and chatting with other hikers.  Our hike took us about 2 hours at a leisurely pace, including numerous stops for views.  We picked up the pace on the wa... 09/28/2016
