I recently wrote a post about the possible loss of another New Orleans Mardi Gras tradition.  I am very happy to say that through strong negotiations and the cooperation of the Steamboat Natchez company, the River Parade will take place as planned without an increase in cost to the Krewe!The annual West Bank Mardi Gras event will take place on January 19, 2008.  Boarding will start at 9:30 am at the Gretna ferry landing and the boat will sail promptly at 10 am.  This wonderful and fun event is open to the public and everyone is welcome to be a part of the only river parade in New Orleans.  Food and drink will be available for purchase on the Natchez.Need tickets?  You can purchase them online here.Hail the Chief!            12/12/2007

 Algiers is the only part of the city of New Orleans located on the West Bank of the Mississippi River and feels more like a small town than part of a metropolitan area.  A large number of people (like me!) who grew up in Algiers have stayed to raise their own families here, making it a very friendly community to live in.  We actually live next door to family, which is not so uncommon here.Algiers Point is the historic portion of upper Algiers, settled in the early 1700's and placed on the National Register of Historic places in 1978.  Insider tip:  The Old Algiers Courthouse is located steps from the ferry and allows residents the opportunity to take care of city business such as filing homestead exemptions and paying traffic tickets without going to City Hall.   Travel to Algiers, LAD... 12/11/2007

I don't even think about the fact that the New Orleans West Bank is a sub-tropical environment.  Having been born and raised here, it's normal for me to weed the garden at least 9 months out of the year.  I don't give much thought to the fact that if some of the weeds and junky, invasive vines are still growing in my garden in November, then ALL of the weeds and junky, invasive plants are still growing.  When that first little itch showed up on my arm, I didn't think twice about it.  Scratch it and move on.  Or not...Every spring, my yard guy, Tim, points out to me where any poison ivy is growing so we can carefully spray it with Roundup and dispose of it.  Every spring, despite his warnings and being VERY careful, I end up in the doctor's office, waiting for the pronouncement that "Yes... 12/09/2007

                                      New Orleans Warehouse District Update-December 2007I expect business and sales to pick up over the next couple of weeks and into next year. There are a couple of nice buys in all categories and price ranges. There is normally less action this time of year meaning buyers can get some nice deals since there are not a lot of people buying but they do look. The cheaper things will begin to sell first followed by the better luxury units. The updated units are still the most popular by far. In an email from the Captain of the Krewe of Choctaw this morning, it was announced that the annual River Parade may be in jeopardy...another victim in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.  Prior to the 2006 Mardi Gras season, the River Parade was held on one of the ferry boats that usually travels between Algiers and Canal Street on the Mississippi River.  A unique event, the ferry boat would cruise up and down the river, followed by the fire boats, Coast Guard and tug boats.  Post Katrina, with no ferry boat available to use, the River Parade was moved onboard the Steamboat Natchez and Choctaw continued to hold the parade, starting from the Gretna ferry landing.  This 70 year tradition of the only krewe to hold a River Parade in the New Orleans area may, sadly, be coming to an end.For ... 11/27/2007

Audubon Trace which was one of Jefferson's Parish first condo developments about 20 years ago is more popular than ever. Its close to New Orleans and in a corridor that is easy to travel in. Near Oschner Medical Center aand Elmwood Business Park. The condo fees and amenties are very reasonable. New Orleans French Quarter Condos are unique in many ways. One of those ways is that you never know what is behind the gate that opens on the street. This is a good example of a condo that I sold last year. It was totally rodone in detail to look like it would have 200 years ago. The Historic Commission is very strict in what you can do with properties in this area. Parking is very tough since many of these buildings pre-date cars by 100-150 years. This unit has a great courtyard, you can open your French doors as the unit was a townhouse style with two exits to balconies with plenty of light.
