New Orleans Historic Homes and the love for pocket doors!        New Orleans loves its pocket doors !!  This is the French influence in New Orleans homes.  These particular doors are nine feet tall.  The separate rooms that when opened can greatly expand the area and when closed can make it another private room.

THANK YOU NEW ORLEANS!  Over 18,000 people crowded the streets of New Orleans today to run the Rock and Roll Marathon and Half Marathon.  The race was very organized and run extremely well. As a participant, I can only imagine the work and strategic planning that goes into an event of this magnitude.  Therefore, my running shoes are off to the city of New Orleans and to the event planners and volunteers. A beautiful city that has endured so much yet is resilient and strong.  I will be back next year.  Thank you for a great memory.

The Federal Fibre Mills located at 1007 South Peters was once a rope factory in 1900.  It is now condos in the Warehouse District of New Orleans.  The features of old warehouse and great common areas make this a downtown favorite.  The lobby is second to none.  The courtyard, pool areas, gym, and lush tropical gardens are a favorite.      Most of the one bedrooms are loft style units that were popular in the 1980's when the building served as a focal point for the New Orleans World Fair in 1984.  The lobby was a German beer garden which was a favorite in New Orleans.  It was one of the first conversions in the New Orleans downtown area.      The favorite features of the individual units are the large windows, exposed brick walls, exposed beams and connectors, high ceilings and some...

NOLA ROCK-N-ROLL MARATHON 2010 - Hey fellow runners, the New Orleans Rock-n-Roll marathon and half marathon is next weekend on February 28, 2010.  The course looks really great and this is the inaugural event for the city.  The course should be very fast and flat. You can still register online through tomorrow night (Sunday, Feb. 21). http://mardi-gras.competitor.com/ I ran the San Antonio Rock-n-Roll a few months ago and was very pleased with a very organized race!  The course was laid out nicely and there were spectators and entertainment along the entire route!  The medals are really nice too. The medals for the New Orleans event look beautiful!  I can't wait to get mine!         The map has been posted and can be accessed via http://mardi-gras.competitor.com/course-map The weather ...

As Mardi Gras 2010 comes to a close, I can't help but reflect on what a wild ride we (New Orleans) have been on so far this year. In a mere 47 days we have had our city come together as never before behind our beloved New Orleans Saints, we have spoken loudly at the ballot box and elected a new mayor with a higher than usual voter turnout, and now we are drawing to a close on Mardi Gras 2010. Following the peak of our coming together as a city, we turned outward and invited the rest of the world to join in our celebrations. As the big weekend started last Thursday and progressed there was much concern. Though the hotels and flights were booked, the terrible winter storms that gripped much of the eastern US nearly crippled Mardi Gras. However, flights began to arrive in earnest though th...

Yesterday, New Orleans made history with the largest Super Bowl parade ever held. Even in a city that is used to hosting big events, I don't think that anyone was prepared for the record breaking crowds that showed up along the parade route to cheer for the National Champions, our boys in black and gold - the New Orleans Saints. It must make the whole 11 people who showed up to welcome the Colts home hang their heads in shame.... Were you in that number? I tried my hardest, but sadly, I was not. Who would have thought that the entire city would become gridlocked and that there would be thousands of people pouring onto the ferries to attend the parade? We parked and got in line at the Gretna Ferry landing as the crowd grew by the minute. When the ferry showed up and allowed boarding to b...

Just in case you missed this link on my earlier blog, here is how the "Who Dat" nation celebrates it's victories.  You can play the video and practice.  You still have time.  It's over 2 hours before the big game.  Join the "Who Dat" nation all around the world in practicing for tonight's victory celebration.  Gather aroung your monitor. The players practice endless hours to play the super bowl, so we need to practice a little as fans before the game.     Even our Louisiana Senators and Representatives took on the NFL to keep the "Who Dat" phrase the people's chant.  The NFL backed down. You the people have free access to use it and sing it without royalties as long as there are no other references to the New Orleans Saints or the NFL.  So put it on your tee shirt, sing it at your funct...

THE SAINTS MYSTIQUE The word destiny keeps popping up in the football world this week.  Those who know seem to believe that there is a certain magic attached to the New Orleans Saints winning the Superbowl this year.  I am one of those people.  This is a town ready for victory.  Did you know that the Saints are named after the FUNERAL song "When the Saints Go Marching In"?  I'm hoping the Saints bring a funeral to the Colts hope for victory this Sunday. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS SUPERBOWL SPREAD NARROWING Is it because of Dwight Freeny's injury or it is because the Saints have become America's New Team that the spread seems to be narrowing?  I've been following the NFL Network and the current and former players that have been interviewed all seem to be leaning toward the Saints winning the Superbowl.  Even though Rich Eisen seems to believe that only Warren Sapp has made his opinion known, Troy Aikman did call them America's New Team yesterday in an interview on NFL Network yesaterday.  The NFL analyst all seem to be leaning towards the Colts, but it was my own impression that there are quite a few players pulling for  the Saints.
