Yes, it's that time of year again!! Tomorrow, Thursday October 14th, is our annual gumbo cook-off in Park International downtown Lafayette from 4:30 to 7:30pm. This year is the 20th edition of the event and Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie will be providing entertainment for everyone. This is a picture of our Keller Williams crew last year. Our theme was Psycho for Gumbo and I was the doctor keeping everybody in line. We sure had a good time! This year, the theme for the cook-off is "Animation-Fascination" and the Keller Williams' crew has picked the 101 Dalmatians. If you come to the park, look for a group of cute puppies having fun. That will be us!                       So put on your dancin' shoes, bring a chair and come taste some great gumbo! Children 5 and under get in free ...

Don't Miss the Rayne Frog Jumping contest at the Frog Festival this year.   November 12, 2010, the streets of Rayne will fill up with frog lovers from all over.  This year the festival will be held from Nov. 12 to Nov. 15, 2010.  There will be frog jumping contests, music, food, and good family fun.  It kicks off with a family night and carnival rides for the family. You'll meet Mr. and Mrs. Tadpole.  And the big event is usually Saturday afternoon with Frog racing and Frog jumping contests.  Bring your own frog or usually you can rent one there. The town of Rayne started in the 1800's when the railroad came to town.  It was first called Poupperville, but changed the name to honor the engineer who laid the tracks: Rayne.

If you were in Lafayette this past weekend, you probably enjoyed Festivals Acadiens in Girard Park. I know I did and I just wanted to share a few of the pictures I took Sunday. The weather was beautiful. Hot and dusty was the theme this year and everyone had a wonderful time, including the musicians! How many of you who know the community of Lafayette, louisiana, know it's history?  In 1823 the Louisiana legislature divided St. Martin parish and created Lafayette Parish.  This name was chosen due the General lafayett's visit to the United States.  The city's actual name remained Vermilionville due to the fact that the name Lafayette was already given to a suburb of New Orleans.  Later in 1884, the New Orleans suburb was incorporated in New Orleans and when the name freed up vermilionville became Lafayette, the parish seat of Lafayette Parish. The adjacent parishes are St. Landry (north), St. Martin (east), Iberia (southeast), Vermilion (south, and Acadia (west).  The languages sponken in the home in the 2000 census were 84% english, 14% French or Cajun French, and 2% spanish.  There...

After being closed for almost 3 years, the bridge on the Lafayette/Vermilion parish line finally opened a couple of weeks ago. The bridge was deemed unsafe in 2007 and too damaged to be repaired. Now, residents who travel between Maurice and Lafayette can finally cross the parish line using the brand new bridge that links Kirk Road in Maurice and Robley Drive in Lafayette. If you are traveling on that road, note that the speed limit drops to 30 MPH when you enter Vermilion parish so be careful. As a resident of Maurice, and someone who uses that road quite often, it's been a pleasure to be able to use the road again to cross the parish line. I have a feeling that many other residents in the area feel the same.

Every wonder what your property TRULY looks like? The parties to a real estate transaction view the home for sale in a different, somewhat unique way. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In this case, depending on whether the beholder is the Seller, the Lender, the Buyer, the Appraiser, or Tax Assessor, your property can take on a different perspective, as witnessed in the following brief, tongue-in-cheek video. 2314 Kaliste Saloom Road, Ste. 913, Lafayette, LA 70508-6835 (337) 212-5373

I bet most of you didn't know this Town.  Unless you are from the Lafayette, Louisiana, or the Acadiana region and love ducks and hunting dogs.  This is the hometown of the annual duck Festival that highlights the hunting heritage of the Acadiana region.  It usually occurs the weekend before Labor Day which is August 26-29, 2010. Events appeal to all ages and tastes.  There are dog trials, skeet shooting contests, a grand parade, duck carving and painting demonstrations, and even a wine and cheese party.  Bands and music add to the festivity. Come on over and bring your hunting dogs.  You'll have loads of fun and may even get to taste some "Geuydan Courtbouillion" the proper Cajun name for fish stew.  I included a link to it's recipe if you miss finding some and you want to try it at ho...

Each course is divided into lessons that take about 20-30 minutes on the average. Each lesson consists of text with multiple choice questions mixed in. The text is presented one small, easy-to-understand sentence or paragraph at a time. After a few screens of text, you will answer a few questions about what you have read. As you progress through the lesson, the learning process keeps track of how you are doing on the questions. After all the text is presented, the computer will go back to the questions you missed or had problems with and review them in random order. You'll keep working on the lesson until you've answered all the questions correctly on two occasions. At that point, the lesson will be marked as complete on the main menu. You can quit a lesson at any time and a bookmark wi...
