Park Forest- Park Forest is a nice, large neighborhood in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Most of the homes seem to be less than thirty years old. Park Forest is home to many small homes. If you are one that likes to have easy access then Park Forest might be the neighborhood for you. There are several schools, stores and businesses around the area. Park Forest is located around Sherwood Forest and Greenwell Springs Rd.Monticello- Monticello is also convenient to schools and businesses because it is linked to Park Forest. Villa Del Rey & Red Oaks- Both of these neighborhoods are close together. This is a much older neighborhood. The homes are somewhat small. These neighborhoods are close to the Cortana Mall which includes a strip mall with: Office Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond, Old Navy and a fun sh...

Area 60 & 61 are pretty close to home for me. That's probably why I like them so much. It's close to the Jefferson area, which is my absolute favorite. Well, I think I have a lot of favorites. It's just Baton Rouge. It's a great place to live. It has so many different areas to choose from, so much culture and so much life. Here are some of the areas in 60 & 61:Mid-City Baton Rouge- Mid-City is somewhat bound by I-110 on the west, College and N. Foster on the east, Choctaw to the north and I-10 to the south. There are several neighborhoods in Mid-City like the Garden District, Ogden Park, Capital Heights, Bernard Terrace and more. Mid-City is home to the historic Baton Rouge Magnet High School. Mid-City is becoming extremely popular again due urban renewal. Goodwood/Tara- This area is lo...

Area 53 is a lovely area. It is actually home to the wonderful Baton Rouge Country Club of Louisiana. Some of the  neighborhoods that call Area 53 home are:Country Club of Louisiana- This place is extremely breathtaking. Some of the most luxurious and fabulous homes are in Louisiana's Country Club. The Country Club is located off of Highland Rd. Of course, you can't drive by and see all the beautiful homes unless you can get in the gated community. The golf course and awesome homes are two reasons why everyone would love to live in this upscale community. They are still wonderful homes surround the Country Club, so it would be a treat to either live it or even around it.University Club Plantation- This is another upscale neighborhood that is close to the LSU golf course. The University ...

The Southdowns area is an older area in Baton Rouge that is located between Perkins Rd and Bayou DuPlantier. It is also between the University Lakes and Pollard Estates. To make it easier to find, it's located to LSU and Downtown Baton Rouge. Even though this neighborhood is older, it has continued to rise in value due to homeowners having maintained their homes. Did you know that some of the Southdown homes are within walking distance to University Lakes? University Lakes is  so beautiful. It really adds warmth to the neighborhood. A fabulous neighorhood in Southdowns is Southdown Gardens. The subdivision was built in 1999. There are about 23 homes in the neighorhood. It is located between Acadian Blvd and College Drive.  I'd say that the coolest thing about the Southdowns Area is Mard...

The Highland Road area is simply breathtaking. It really is a fabulous area. I love driving down Highland and looking at all the beautiful trees that stalk the road. For some reason, it always reminds of of the movie "Steel Magnolias". Where is Highland located?  It runs through College, Siegen and Essen Lane. There's nothing like taking off on a beautiful Sunday to go house looking on Highland. Personally, I think Highland is home to some of the most prettiest homes in Baton Rouge. There have been many times where I go out of my way to ride down Highland just to bask in the beauty. It feels like home, a little bit of country and city all in one. Highland Rd. seems to be home to older homes and neighborhoods. New construction didn't bypass Highland though. It is progressing and growing ...

It seemed like it was only yesterday that I was going to LSU and living the college life. Ahh, good times. I would come out and say that the LSU area is "Party Central" but you definitely have to be the type that doesn't seem to mind noise or cammotion. While there are probably a handful of older adults that live in the LSU area, I would say that most of the population are students. The LSU area has really grown in the past five or so years. While Nicholson (the main road heading to LSU) is packed with students and apartment dwellers, there are still several nice neighorhoods. New sites seem to be popping up all the time. There are several nice condo areas and also many townhomes to live in. Here are a few of the neighborhoods that the LSU area offer:ArlingtonCollege TownState StreetUni...

Have you ever heard of "Old South Baton Rouge"? If you have ever visited Baton Rouge, you might have passed right through it and not even known it. If you drive north of LSU on Highland toward Downtown Baton Rouge, you are in Old South Baton Rouge. Old South Baton Rouge is being reborn. It's an older side of town that is now being shown a great amount of love. Several organizations have gotten together to better Old South. The organization that has brought together many people to help Old South Baton Rouge is called "OSBR". It is a project put together to help the area between LSU and Downtown Baton Rouge. The plan was created with hopes that the ideas for Old South will be implemented and will improve the looks and quality of life of Old South.  Louisiana State Unversity plays a key rol...

APRIL 2008                             18432 North Lake Shadow Drive                                  The April yard-of-the-month award has been given to the home and garden at 18432 North Lake Shadow Drive.  A finely landscaped yard is highlighted with lantana, indigo, viola, and a variety of green shrubbery.  Crape myrtles make an early spreading canopy over a small garden with ceramic pots and a bench.  Evidently these crape myrtles were not trimmed back so they provide a fine addition to the spring garden.  Congratulations to the homeowners for a well-deserved award.
