Watching the news yesterday and today reminds me that, once again, several people have died in house fires in the last few days & weeks. Have you fire safed your house for winter? Steps include: Cleaning the creosote out of your chimney. Some chimneys can be cleaned by the homeowner with a simple brush kit from one of the local hardware stores. Other chimneys need a professional chimney sweep such as Indian Summer Chimney Services. Keep a screen in front of the fireplace to prevent sparks jumping out onto combustible materials. Cleaning the lint out of your dryer and dryver vent pipe. Cleaning methods depend on how your vent pipe is configured. Solid pipes can be cleaned with a simple brush kit from the hardware store.
