 As we go into the fall season you may want to know what the housing market has done this spring and summer in Earlville, Illinois. There have been 10 homes enter into contract since March. These numbers have been calculated from the information available through the MLS of Northern Illinois. Since Earlville is a cross market these numbers may not be complete. There are two other MLSs that serve the Earlville community. The Illini Valley board and the Lee/Dekalb county boards may also have information. As for the numbers from the MLSNI $1.84 million dollars of real estate have closed. The lowest priced home was $124,900 and the most expensive home was $415,000. La Salle County is located 60 miles south and west of Chicago. The Illinois River runs through the center and makes it east to west bend and heads south to Peoria. The gas prices and rising tax prices have adversely affected the market in La Salle county this year. The 2007 over 2005 sales stats show homes are down $28,500 for the period of June '05 to June '07. That is in a market where sales prices have dropped from $142000 in June of '05 to $123,500 in June of this year.What to make of this. The number of homes that have sold is down in the Chicago market by 28% but here our market is up with number of sold units in '05 at 99, '06 at 92 and this year we had 147 completed sales in June that is a 60% increase in total number of units sold. The patient sellers are becoming very motivated as days on market have increased to 131 days. The LaSalle County Board and it's chairman have relieved one of its members from his committee duties. In a closed door meeting the La Salle County Board under the direction of chairman Jerry Hicks and the county attorney Troy Holland relieved Board member Stephen Carlson (Mendota) from his committee duties. This was in response to  Carlson's property tax objection that his property taxes were illegal or excessive. There is an underlying conflict that is at work here as the county continues to try and find a way to staff the new county jail in the wake of a tax referendum loss during the last election. This is combined with an incumbent board and a group of landowners who are trying to take advantage of a tort levy which is acting as a property tax immunity for large land owners.The cou...
