Are you a Fence Sitter?   We have historic low interest rates now for home buyers so why would you want to be a Fence Sitter?   We do not know how long the interest rates will stay down, but if you have been thinking of buying a home, there is no better time then NOW.   For example on a conventional loan of $200,000.00 with $20,000 down at 4% interest your monthly payment without PMI and Real Estates Taxes would be about $860.  If you wait until interest rates go up only a half percent, your payment would go up a little over $50 a month. And if you wait until the interest rate goes up to 5% then your monthly payment would go up over $100.00 a month.  So by Fence Sitting you are costing yourself a fair amount of money on a yearly basis.   The market has a good number of homes out there f...

Where would I find an Easter Egg Hunt In Post Falls Idaho? As I am writing this morning here on the Prairie in Post Falls, Idaho, it does not look at all like spring outside or Easter for that matter.  We still have snow on the ground and the temperature is just above freezing.  But as you know here in North Idaho, if you don’t like the current weather just wait a bit and it will change.  So… by Saturdayand Easter Sunday I have been assured that the sun will shine and the temperature will get to the high 50’s and low 60’s, and this brings me to the subject of today’s writing, Easter Egg Hunts.    I have been checking and can find only one egg hunt open to the public, here in Post Falls, and it sounds like great fun. And where would I find an Easter Egg Hunt in Post Falls Idaho?   Real L...

Believe it or not Spring is really coming to North Idaho!  My daffodils and other perennials are up and growing here in Post Falls, Idaho.  So there is no better time then right now to make your spring cleaning list with actual dates to accomplish these chores.  Our homes are usually one of the largest investments that we have so we need to maintain and protect our investment.  With so many people struggling, a good idea would be to start with going through our closets, reorganize and clean, then take all of the clothes that are not being used to your local Thrift Store.  Then go through the basement and garage and do the same thing with un-used items. Other things to consider as you start to get your home spruced up would be:           Vacuum baseboards, walls and clean ceiling fans.  ...

I have had the opportunity to visit another of the great companies in our neighborhood here in Post Falls, Idaho, and that company is SYSCO Spokane.  They are located out at State Line near Cabela’s.  They are a provider of quality foods to restaurants, hotels, and healthcare facilities.  They only sell as a wholesaler; so unfortunately as individuals we cannot shop there.  They provide services to their clientele  such as helping with nutrition, food pairings, and new ways to provide interesting ways to serve food.   SYSCO Spokane has only the finest and freshest foods available.  The warehouse is very clean and well organized.   SYSCO Spokane has been a large contributor to our local Foods Banks, they are a member of the Post Falls Chamber, and they have about 160 employees.  They cov...

Well, here it is, the first day of spring and we were greeted with a white landscape this morning, on the way into work.  March is certainly not letting go of our wintry weather very easy.  And here I had in my mind that it is time to plant the tomato seeds.  Guess I will hold up for another week on that project.  This is the time of the year that I really want to get out in the yard and start taking care of the winter brown.  They tell us that by Sunday we will be up in the fiftys so guess that is when I will start looking for the daffodils to be poking through, looking for sun light. Sometimes, out here on the prairie in Post Falls, Idaho we do get a bit impatient waiting for spring to come.

We have two beautiful "horse friendly" neighborhoods in Post Falls and many people are not even aware they exist.  Brickert Country Estates and Big Sky Estates are only about ½ mile apart and are located south of Prairie just off Huetter to the West. They are not in the city of Post Falls but rather the county; so real estate taxes are lower.  The homes are on approximately 5 acre lots where horses and other animals are allowed in limited numbers.  Most homes have shops and they are in keeping with the CC&R’s so they are all nicely done.   The entrances to the two neighborhoods are off Huetter.  When you drive into Big Sky you will notice the boulevard trees and lots of white rail fencing, and well maintained yards; most of the homes are set back from the main road. When you enter Brick...

Body By Scotty in Post Falls Idaho, an auto body shop, is a great example of a small business doing great after many years of working very hard.  They truly started in their backyard in 1990, moving to their current location in Post Falls in 1995. Over the next few years they added more shop space and new office space.  They currently have 17 employees and have been faithful members of the Post Falls Chamber for many years.  I have personally experienced the fine work they do.   Sharon and Scotty have always been active community members and each summer, on the last Friday in July, they host a huge block party to say “thank you".  Their philosophy is to provide a fun, safe, and friendly experience for everyone.  They truly believe that by giving back to the community in this way, they c...

What an interesting day we had yesterday; as the Ambassadors from the Post Falls Chamber made visits to three businesses here in Post Falls, Idaho.  The three businesses that we visited were Sysco Foods, Walmart, West Point Parkway, and Cabela’s.  These three companies give an amazing amount of food and money to the Post Falls Food Bank and fulfill many other needs in our community.   Sysco Foods is a supplier of all types of foods to restaurants, hospitals, educational facilities, but they do not sell to individuals. The leaderships at these companies all stress the importance of sharing with the communities where they are located. We are fortunate to have such good neighbors here in Post Falls, as they not only share, but provide employment for many of our residents.

We have been having an amazing winter, here on the prairie in North Idaho.  New construction has hardly missed a day of work this winter.  Under Ground Force is moving along; ahead of schedule, on their new manufacturing building in Post Falls, Idaho.  They definitely plan on having a spring opening of this fantastic new facility.    So they still need a lot of new workers.  Anyone out there looking for work?  They need welders, fabricators, assembly line people and painters.  The wage for skilled and trained workers starts at around $30,000 per year.  You can go this site for more information www.gfmfg.com   Ground Force is located in Post Falls, Idaho at 5650 E. Seltice Way.

I have had the opportunity the past several years to work with an amazing lady, by the name of, Barb Chambers.  She just recently was awarded Volunteer of Year, from the Post Falls Chamber.  Barb gives countless hours to our community, working for the Post Falls Food Bank, the Post Falls Chamber, working to help kids involved in domestic abuse, and somehow she stills manages to find time to help her husband with his business, Ground Force Manufacturing. Barb heads up the Ambassadors, which in my opinion is a fun group for the chamber.  We get to meet all of the new members and go to the actual businesses.  We meet once a month to visit the businesses and introduce ourselves.  It is a great way to get to know folks in our community.  Barb does an awesome job as our leader, so it's not a ...

Well, we did have a fair amount of snow the past few days here in Post Falls, Idaho, but fortunately not nearly as much as was forecasted.  We did end up with about 12 inches of snow. The kids really had a blast playing and making their own creations.  I am so glad the kids, when left to their own devices, were able to come up with a creative project that took a whole day to do! They had so much fun playing in the snow.   The grandkids decided to take the snow that was shoveled off their driveway and make a snow house.  They had a front door and a back door and a living room inside.  All of the grandkids could fit inside at the same time.  Here are some pictures of the kids and their handy work.  Then as the temperature warmed up, they had just as much fun knocking the house apart.

Just an update from out here on the prairie in Post Falls, Idaho.  We finally got some snow and it has been easy to push around, as there is not too much moisture in it. I will take this type of light snow anytime.  Just got off the phone with our son in the Seattle area; they are having an ice storm, he has no power, has a power line down across the road, and is not able to get an estimate of when it will be repaired as there are many lines down and lot and lots of people with out power.  So life is good out here on the prairie in Post Falls. We have fed the game birds and within a few minutes of putting out the food this morning, the birds were there eating; mostly quail and pheasants.  I do so enjoy watching the game birds.

Here it is the big day!  I am going to talk about the entrees that we had at the Oval Office, in Post Falls, Idaho the other day.  Now, I have eaten many times at their flagship restaurant the White House Grill, also in Post Falls, and always had great food.  My all time favorite there is the grilled sea bass.  One of the reasons that this fish is so good it is always fresh. By that I mean they get the whole fish in fresh (almost still wriggling) and they do their own filleting of the fish. At the oval Office you can get the Naughty Sea Bass which is a slightly spicy marinated sea bass topped with a caramelized walnut sauce with Frangelico.  Well I am here to tell you that this entrée was awesome!!       The other entrée that we tried was also magnificent, and that was the New York Gang...

Yesterday, I talked about what a great experience I had at the Oval Office in Post Falls Idaho.  Well, today I would like to share about the appetizers that we had.    We started with the Calamari, which usually I am not a fan of but these were cooked to perfection, they were flash fried and served with a spicy caper sauce.  Umm… they were so good.    Next we had sweet potato fries and I have never had sweet potato fries like this before.  They were fried and smothered in a creamy gorgonzola cheese sauce and finished with gorgonzola crumbles.  Wow! You have to try this for yourself and you won’t regret it one bit.    Then we had Skinny Secretaries – asparagus grilled and tossed in a lemon-olive oil sauce.  Now I have had lots asparagus so I wasn’t prepared to be impressed but again the ...

Yesterday, we had the most amazing experience at a small Bistro in Post Falls, Idaho, called the Oval Office.  Owned by Raci Erdem, a young man who immigrated to the US as a teenager landing in New York City. Raci began working in French, Turkish and American restaurants before finding his way to the beautiful Pacific Northwest.  He worked in several restaurants in Spokane (including the former Salty’s now Anthonys).  He had not yet made his way to being Chef.   He and a friend opened the White House Grill in a very small place on Spokane Street  (formerly a sandwich shop) and for several years they packed people, litterly, into this tiny place.  But then the bank  building on the corner became available and Raci jumped on this opportunity and moved the White House Grill a few hundred f...

Local Bank has faith in local business expansion!  Good news for Ground Force Worldwide as they are now about 3 months into building their new facility on Seltice Way.  Community 1st Bank of Post Falls and Western Capital, another community bank, have approved funding; allowing for the continuation of the new facility.  The new facility should be open the 1st of April, 2012.  Now Ground Force needs workers and they are looking for about 150 qualified people in the area.  They are accepting applications for painters, fitters, welders, and assemblers.  The wage for skilled and trained workers starts at $30,000 per year. This is great news for PostFalls, and I have always said that we live in a great community, both for quality of life and work opportunities.
