August 2024 update from Maui - 1 year after the firesI thought it would be timely to do an update on the situation on Maui.  I'll send you to my other blog so I don't have to repeat myself.  A lot has changed but a lot still needs to be done, and it's way more that I can say here quickly.Our tourist industry really took a hit over the past year, with visitor numbers down about 27% they say.  Thankfully those visitors are spending heavily and that helps... thank you!There's a lot of drama about what's happening and what's not happening, as you can imagine.  People are being housed and things are progressing, but it's a tough situation to just move on from.  I am blessed to live far from all of it, but still feel the energy and also the fear, since parts of Maui continue to have wild fire... 08/07/2024

Throwback Thursday: Sunset Memory from Maui  I was sitting with my 2 younger granddaughters and was scrolling through photos of our 2 most recent trips to Maui and stumbled across this photo. We were pretending be in Hawaii, including beach chairs, a "beach" by our small pool,and of course a picnic lunch. They even did some Hula dancing after I found a video to watch, then some Hula music for them to dance to. Back to Maui...Seems like the Maui sunsets were pretty awesome most every night we have been there, but some were better than others. And you really had to spend some time watching since they changed rapidly, in some cases becoming even more amazing as the sun went down and finally dropped below the nearby island of Lanai and the clouds. Wordless Wednesday: A Badly Needed Sunset  Our June Gloom weather here in Carlsbad, just a short distance from the beaches, has obliterated any sunsets for the last few days. Throwback Thursday: Killer Sunset  There is something about sunsets that appeal to me no matter where I travel...and to many others, given the crowds that gathered on the beach to watch the sunset every night in Ka'anapali, Maui recently. As soon as the sun was getting close to hiding in the clouds and descending behind the nearby island of Lanai there was a flurry of activity as people headed to the beach or gathered by the pool, cameras ready for what surprises lay ahead. The other night was particularly spectacular, especially with this fascinating blue streak in the sky. A killer sunset indeed. And in my opinion the clouds add an extra punch to any sunset. But no green flash! May you continue to take time to appreciate sunrises and sunsets, wherever you may be.
