Develop a family hurricane preparedness plan before an actual storm threatens your area.   If your family hurricane preparedness plan includes evacuation to a safer location for any of the reasons specified with in this web site, then it is important to consider the following points. If ordered to evacuate, do not wait or delay your departure.   If possible, leave before local officials issue an evacuation order for your area. Even a slight delay in starting your evacuation will result in significantly longer travel times as traffic congestion worsens. Select an evacuation destination that is nearest to your home, preferably in the same county, or at least minimize the distance over which you must travel in order to reach your intended shelter location.   In choosing your destina...

Oak Tree-Rich PARK ESTATES In Venice Florida could make a terrific place to call your home! That's if you truly love NATURE and don't mind raking up oak leaves in the Spring and Acorns in the Fall! The trees are most Laurel Oak with a smattering of Live Oak, and at this time of the year they are in their glory as new foliage is bursting forth. Since the Laurel and Live Oaks are not manmade, their populations are made up of hundreds, if not thousands, of strains so the leaf shedding and new leaf emergence phases can each last about a month. The raking "ceremony" is very similar, you surmise, with that Fall activity with Maples in the North, except we do no burning and instead send them to a County-run composting program. These marvelous species make Park Estates a dandy, quiet and reward...

No, I was not on a trip to 'Good Old England' and stopped to marvel at mature residents playing what I used to think was a childs game that I couldn't spell...CROQUET! I was cruising by Wellfield Sports Park in Venice Florida, to watch my grandson play baseball, when "What Before My Wondering Eyes Would Appear" (to the tune of "T'was The Night Before Christmas as the Reindeer were Landing!) BUT tens of Earthlings/Aliens (?), all dressed in WHITE! Yes, I was as amazed as the Kids seeing Santa and Rudolph when I saw real people actually playing Croquet on a field especially made for the sport.  Have you ever seen such a marvelous thing in sports.  I have once in a while seen kids and an adult or two playing on a backyard of uncertain terrain and obstacles, but never anything approaching a...

Recently a homeowner who was unhappy with their agent called me to preview their home and give them my suggestions.  I thought - great, an opportunity to pick up another listing.  When I arrived the homeowner showed me around but something just did not feel right and I was beginning to realize I was alone in the house with this guy.  While the homeowner was giving me the tour there was a power outage and there we were in the dark.  It was daylight but all the blinds were lowered.  This concerned me even more.  We continued to talk but there were several times he put his hand on my shoulder.  I instantly put distance between us and asked him to show me the canal in the backyard.  I just felt like I needed to get outside in the open.  This is the first time that I have ever felt concerned...
