The Gulf Maritime Festival at the Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs March 6-7 was lots of fun, with entertainment and great food.  This guy was behind Rusty Bellies Restaurant known for it's seafood. He's no dummy!  There were a lot of pelicans hanging around, waiting for a hand-out. 03/16/2010

Anclote Boulevard in Tarpon Springs Florida - Lana Robbins   There is a new traffic light at the intersection of Alternate 19 and Anclote Boulevard in Tarpon Springs Florida. I took a picture of it with my cell phone camera while my husband was driving and we stopped at the traffic light:     They installed it a few weeks ago. So far it has been helpful to those who drive on Anclote Boulevard. In the Tampa Bay Florida area they are timely in road and sign construction and while the installation of a traffic light may seem insignificant to some LOL... a new traffic light in Tarpon Springs shows how Tarpon Springs is a growing area. Hospice Thrift Store in Tarpon Springs, Florida One of my favorite thrift stores in the Tampa Bay area is the Hospice Thrift Store in Tarpon Springs, Florida:       Suncoast Hospice was founded by volunteers in 1977 and has grown to become the nation's leading not-for-profit hospice organization. After changing their name to The Hospice in 2009 today its volunteer programs involve more than 3,000 dedicated individuals. Each time you shop at one of their three thrift stores you help raise money to support the Hospice.   One thing that I enjoy is browsing in their thrift store. Beautiful Sunset Beach in Tarpon Springs, FL   A happy beach walker on Sunset Beach in Tarpon Springs, FL.  This is one of the prettiest beaches in the area and this was a cold and windy but bright sunny day. Even a cold day at the beach is a good day! This is a special spot and is always peaceful. Black-hooded Parakeets make their home in the trees at Sunset Beach in Tarpon Springs. These really pretty and noisy guys and gals are all over the trees there. They flit back and forth and hold meetings, chit-chat (a lot), and just stare at you when you want to take their picture. There are about 7-8 in the tree, can you find them? These guys natives of South America but seem to like our area too. Did you know that a group of parakeets is called a "chatter", wonder why? 02/16/2010

Sunset Beach in Tarpon Springs is a gorgeous park with the prettiest beach. The land was donated to Tarpon Springs by Nick and Irene Nicholas back in 1926. If you are tired of snowscapes, sit back and enjoy the beach. The birds on the rock are anhingas. The park is also home to black hooded parakeets. It was a very cool day but the sky is gorgeous. Brooker Creek Preserve is a large park - approximately 7 miles by 1 or 2 miles - located in northern Pinellas County off Keystone Road. It is a wonderful place to go for long walks. The park has been left in it's natural state for the most part. Buildings for educational purposes have been added and classes are offered there by the park rangers. You can learn about the native wildlife as well as about our native plants! There is even a gift store where you can purchase unique gifts. With miles of trails to hike on, it is a great place to take the whole family for the afternoon or go alone. The last time I was there I went solo and was glad I did. Tarpon Springs Florida is located in north Pinellas County. As we approach the month of January we start to prepare for the Feast of the Epiphany. Tarpon Springs is a GREEK town and the archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Church comes to town each year for the throwing of the cross into the bayou in Tarpon Springs. First there is a mass at the Greek Orthodox Church. The church is beautiful and tourists always visit it! From the church there is a procession to the bayou where the archbishop tosses the cross into the bayou. Greek boys between the ages of 16 and 18 are waiting in boats for the cross to be tossed. Fred Howard Park Beach in Tarpon Springs, Florida to Reopen on Monday December 28, 2009 The beach at Pinellas County’s Fred Howard Park Beach in Tarpon Springs, Florida will reopen on Monday, December 28, 2009. Howard Park Beach has been closed to the public since September 2, 2008 for bridge and roadway reconstruction. Pinellas County replaced two bridges along the causeway which provides access to the beach from the main land to the 155-acre park. Last night Cyndee and Jack Haydon had a birthday party for Cyndee (she turned sweet 16) at the Tarpon Turtle Grill on Lake Tarpon. The boat parade also took place last night on Lake Tarpon and the judging was at the Tarpon Turtle. Naturally, Ron and I were there! We couldn't miss Cyndee's birthday bash and it was indeed wonderful!!! And here is the Birthday Girl herself, Cyndee Haydon, with one of her two adorable sons! And here is the other part of the Haydon pair, Jack Haydon! It was a wonderful evening for everyone!!! Thanks again, Jack and Cyndee!!! The first Greek immigrants arrived to this city during the 1880s when they were hired to work as divers in the growing sponge-harvesting industry. Tarpon Springs Florida Sponge Docks   There are so many exciting things to do in Tarpon Springs, Florida. In many ways it reminds me of Hawai'i where I was born and raised due to its many cultural activities, sightseeing, sunshine year-round, and close proximity to the water.
