Fred Howard Park & Beach is the main public beach in Tarpon Springs Florida. Unlike many large public beaches, this beach is connected to the rest of the park and the mainland by a causeway which was recently renovated. This island beach offers everything you could possibly want: restroom facilities, showers, lifeguards, bike and boat rentals and, of course, the sparkling waters of the Gulf of Mexico. You drive through the park on your way to the beach, past numerous covered picnic areas. These shelters can be reserved in advance for parties and get-togethers. There are several playground areas for the children in this park which covers 155 acres right along the Gulf Coast. As you begin the drive along the causeway, you can see the island that is the beach area in the distance. Many loc...

Today I attended a home inspection in Tarpon Springs that lasted 6 hours. It was without a doubt the longest home inspection I have ever attended. The home is a beautiful home, not especially large (2500 sq ft), with a pool. A six hour home inspection in a house of that size covered every nook and cranny. Now we will await the written report and then the homeowner will get the information as to what needs to be repaired before we can move on toward the closing table. This is my personal favorite on the house - the beautiful double doors. They are magnificent and something you don't see every day.   It would be wonderful if we close on this lovely home but that, of course, depends on the homeowner's willingness to complete all needed repairs. If not this one, we will find another equally...

Sunset Beach is one of two beaches in Tarpon Springs Florida. It is a small beach where you will find groups of people enjoying a drumming circle or other musical adventures during the evening hours on weekends. Complete with restroom facilities, picnic and grill areas, plenty of parking for smaller groups and an area to launch your boat into the waters of St Joseph's Sound, which lead out to the Gulf of Mexico, this is a lovely little beach. Sunset Beach is a place where the locals meet. People walk down to the beach from their homes or condos, enjoy the sparkling waters and the beautiful blue skies that are so typical of Florida. What is so great about Sunset Beach is that it is tucked away in an area where you would never find it! If you did not know to turn west on the street leadin...

Anderson Park is located in Tarpon Springs Florida, on the shores of Lake Tarpon. This park is especially noteworthy because it is so hilly in an area that is otherwise relatively flat. The park entrance is directly off of US 19 in Tarpon Springs. There is so much to do in Anderson Park which has picnic areas, a boat launch so you can access wonderful Lake Tarpon with your boat, playgrounds for the little ones and the not so little ones as well! There are hiking trails and nature trails awaiting your inspection. The boat ramp is open 24 hours a day, as are the fishing piers!  If there is one thing that Lake Tarpon has, it is some LARGE bass! Naturally, as with any body of water in Florida, there may be a gator around as well, so use common sense and caution! One thing that most people a...

Tarpon Springs Florida, home to the Greek sponge diving industry and some of the best Greek restaurants on the Gulf Coast is also a wonderful place to live! There are so many waterways criss-crossing, so many islands, bayous and bridges. Tarpon Springs Florida has often been compared to Venice, Italy because of these beautiful intertwining waterways. Indeed, there is no shortage of beautiful homes here in Tarpon Springs Florida and so many of them are waterfront! Those who visit these tropical shores often decide to remain. The lifestyle is easy going, typical for the climate. There are also many older, historical beauties and every now and then, one comes on the market! Tarpon Springs Florida offers wonderful Greek cooking in dozens of Greek restaurants. The reason for this cluster of Greek restaurants is that Tarpon Springs Florida was the center of the Florida sponge diving industry a hundred years ago and it was the Greek sponge divers that came here and settled from the Greek Isles! There are many wonderful restaurants to choose from but my personal favorite is Mykonos! Whenever I have guests in town, we head to Mykonos for a wonderful meal! Located on Dodecanese Blvd., Mykonos is across the street from Dimitris Restaurant. Dimitris is on the Anclote River, which means that if you sit outside, you can watch the fishing boats unload their catch! Hellas Restaurant is a little further West on Dodecanese Blvd and it has a wonderful bakery where you can...

Tarpon Springs Florida is indeed a Greek sponge diver's paradise! Tarpon Springs is the one town locally where you can go into almost any store and speak Greek! The local Greek sponge industry started around 1905 when the first Greek immigrants arrived in Tarpon Springs. At one time the sponge industry was more profitable locally than the citrus industry! Today the town is popular with tourists who enjoy purchasing the sponges and sampling the fantastic Greek cooking in local restaurants! Tarpon Springs Florida should be on your list of things to do while you are in the Clearwater area! The town offers a true sampling of Greek life and makes you think that you have been magically transported to the Greek islands of the Mediterranean! While all of the restaurants offer excellent food, my...

This afternoon I once again picked my little granddaughter up from day care and we went out to spend a few quality hours together. She wanted to go to the aquarium in Tarpon Springs, so that is where we headed. Tarpon Springs Aquarium is located on the west end of Dodecanese Blvd. We got there a little before 1 pm and just in time for the shark feeding. It has been interesting, watching my granddaughter develop. A year ago she wouldn't touch anything at the aquarium. Here she is reaching for the turtle and I had a hard time making her leave the starfish, sea urchin and hermit crabs IN the water. Touching is allowed but the sea creatures need to remain IN the water. Explain that to a four year old!   Like I said, she just did not want to leave the sea creatures in their native environmen...

When You Give A Seagull a French Fry-You get a Tweet-Up! When my son was very young, one of our favorite books was If You Give A Mouse a Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff. My husband and I recently had lunch at one of our favorite places, Miss Vicki’s on the River in Tarpon Springs-Florida, and when I gave a seagull a french fry, I was reminded of that book. But look what happened instead. He multiplied! I decided to stop giving him french fries because they would tweet all their friends and soon it would be a Seagull Tweet-Up.     So, if you want a great lunch with a great view and lots of friends near by, go to Miss Vicki's on the River  in Tarpon Springs, Florida.   Posts you may have missed.Bushes with real Character at DisneyWorld Epcot Flower and Garden ShowMomma and Baby Manatee-S...

Pelican Point Seafood in Tarpon Springs Florida is the other place we go for our fresh seafood. Here it also comes directly off the boat, with the exception of the salmon, which is Alaskan and flown in. Since I love salmon, guess where I purchase it. Pelican Point Seafood is open six days a week, as the sign on the door behind Ronnie shows. The fish market is right next door to Rusty Bellies Restaurant and both are owned by the same people. If you are looking for local fish, you need to check Pelican Point Seafood out. Between Pelican Point Seafood and Northside Seafood, both located in Tarpon Springs, there is really no need to ever purchase anything but fresh seafood! How is that for a good looking Red Snapper? Sure makes me hungry already and I just had breakfast! Indeed, nothing can...

Northside Seafood Market in Tarpon Springs Florida is located on the north side of the Anclotte River at 1078 Island Avenue. I have gone there for years for fresh fish and shrimp, right off the boat! Yesterday Ron and I went up there and got a couple dozen jumbo shrimp for dinner. They were later sauteed in olive oil together with onions, tomatoes spices and feta cheese! Heaven on Earth!   If you go, be careful where you park so your car isn't shelled!  :-) If you want to give them a call, it is: 727-430-5598 or 727-945-9795 Open seven days a week!

Tarpon Springs Florida single family homes report is ever so 'slightly' skewed since Matt Geiger's enormous home on Keystone Road sold in January of this year for $8,000,000. The home has 30,237 heated sq ft of living space divided over the three story home. There are 6 bedrooms, 8 full bathrooms and 4 half baths. The entire residence is on 28 acres of land and was originally listed in May of 2007 for just under 20 million! Back in 2002 Geiger had a few local problems when his bison got loose and were wandering the local fields off of Keystone Road. That was one incident that really got the local attention!   List Price Sold Price Sold Price/Sq Ft # Days on Market High $9,995,000 $8,000,000 $378.60 744 Low $18,000 $18,000 $19.46 14 Average $290,961 $262,178 $98.27 126 I found this photo...
